I'm grateful to Southgate for giving him that extra belief if anything. I'm sure you're right Paddy .. just something that crossed my mind. But believe me, if you blow enough smoke up someones arse even the best of us can be turned. And one other point ... the 'other half' has a massive influence on this ... one way or the other. But ... if I was a betting man, i'd agree with you ... 1
katieakita Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 Don't think we are a selling club anymore but IF a player wants out you have a problem Neymar thought Barcelona were not big enough for him (or the greedy diving gits bank balance) and trotted off to PSG. You are not going to stop this type of player but we do seem to look after our players and pay them well. The Owners said they wanted us to be a top 6 club and everybody laughed. 9th and 2 cup QF seem a bottom line now. Investing the huge amounts into the clubs infrastructure shows they mean business as does the 3 new signings who have come in to improve the team not just make up numbers. The club have backed Puel whether we agree or not but really cannot see them not expecting an improvement on last season. There is no reason not to expect an improvement on last season and every reason to see one of the "big clubs" have a poor season next year, plenty of unrest at Chelsea and Arsenal. Maguire is playing regular football and is still improving if anything see him getting an improved contract
Popular Post Finnegan Posted 8 July 2018 Popular Post Posted 8 July 2018 I think sometimes some of our fans think that there's a clause in everyone's contract that they have to be released if a "BIG CLUB" wants them. Since we've been back in the Premier league, we've only lost one player that we didn't want to sell and that was Ngolo who had a release clause. Vardy is still here, Mahrez is still here, we sold Drinkwater because we absolutely had Chelsea's pants down over the price. I don't know why anyone worries about Maguire going. He's got a tidy contract and Vichai will expect him to honour it unless we get an astronomical fee for him. No chance at all he goes this summer. 8 1

The owners are not spending £90 million on a new training facility so Andy King and Leo Ullo have a nice shower after training. It’s an elite facility intended for elite players. 5
MPH Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 He should definitely leave so he can err... get in the England squad... maybe if he plays for a big club he might be able to become a regular and make it to the World Cup..

Well being at little Leicester didn't help Mahrez get to the Finals did it? Maybe he has a point.
brucey Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 2 hours ago, Countryfox said: Interesting point for me in one of todays papers ... Southgate said he had to work on Maguires confidence .... low in confidence, happy at Leicester ... confidence and belief in own ability improves, head swells, ego matches size of head, wants to move ... just a thought. In Maguire's eyes playing for England is a higher level than playing in the CL. He knows he is guaranteed to play every game here and therefore his England place is also guaranteed while we are in the PL. Moving clubs is always a risk, if he does not nail down a starting spot at a top 4 club, his England place could be lost and I don't think he is prepared to risk that. He may be confident enough to back himself to be good enough (and we know he probably is) - but then again so did Drinky. 1
jayfox26 Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 If City put a shit house bid in for Maguire just before the end of the transfer window, i will personally hunt down Guardiola. I could potentially see United, Arsenal and Liverpool needing him, Spurs couldn't afford him and City really dont need him (but thats not stopped them before). Our top players will all leave at some point and that's something we have to accept but i just hope the owners wont sell 2 key players in one window. I have no issues with players that go on to better themselves like Kante and Im sure Mahrez will do well at City, but for the sake of Harry and England he needs to play every week like he does at Leicester. Make him captain and give him a huge pay rise when he returns.

Mickyblueeyes Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 It’s very important that we do keep Harry. He has head firmly screwed on and goes from strength to strength season to season. The experience in Russia will make him better. Two more years than the vultures can pay up.
Spudulike Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 When it comes to selling our best players, I hope that we have become a bloody awkward club to deal with. 1
Lovejoy Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 I love Harry Mag but if someone offers £60m+ we should talk. The figure might sound pie in the sky to some but teams have been known to spunk silly money after a tournament, a great time to sell. 1

Maguire is legitimately a better player than VVD. Plus he's an England International, which chucks about 15/20m on his price. I said this half seriously in another thread but I actually do believe it - you weigh up all the different factors, I think Maguire is more valuable than Mahrez to an English club right now. 60m wouldn't be enough to turn the owners heads imo. 4

Have to disagree - Maguire is class but lacks pace, Van Dijk has everything technically, like Maguire, but is also rapid. Edited 8 July 2018 by OhYesNdidi

Most pundits don't have a clue and are judging him off four and half (admittedly excellent) games. I don't want to take anything away from him at all, he's class and I was about ****ing roaring when I saw he'd bagged earlier and he's having a ****ing wonder of a tourney - but I think that *right now* we are the perfect club for him. Unless we grow with him, he'll leave, as Riyad (it'd appear) is. But as it stands, we're the best fit for him, and he seems the sort to appreciate that. Yes and no. He isn’t perfect. But he’s the best we have and has a lot of years ahead of him to improve. If we got a silly offer like 100m I would accept it, because we could do a lot with that money. But anything less and I wouldn’t bother.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 (edited) There's been a Man City vulture not so much circling, ready to swoop, as sitting on Mahrez's shoulder, nibbling at his ear, for months. Edited 8 July 2018 by Trav Le Bleu
ARM1968 Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 Maguire has been the stand out defender for the whole tournament imho. Couple of early errors against Tunisia, but since then he has been sublime. His dominance in the air is incredible, his composure on the deck and the danger he presents from set plays. Probably the first £100 million defender - and I’m serious. 1

But if Van Dick is worth £75 million, Big Mag’s is getting close to the £100 million mark. Win the World Cup and that would be about his price. i can see Man Utd offering £60 million plus Smalling. He he has been an absolute colossus for England. Hope to god we get another season from him. Edited 8 July 2018 by ARM1968
Superpants82 Posted 8 July 2018 Posted 8 July 2018 Harry Maguire 2/1 to Tottenham as of now. only odds though 2

Yes he's had a good tournament but it's nuts to go OTT over his performances against absolute crap competition!.. Tunisia, Panama, Colombia and Sweden FFS!!!.. Get some perspective here. 1 1
