If you was a center back at Leicester would you sign a contract?.. bear in mind its near impossible to replace Wes Morgan and also how Dragovic was treated last year?

This.:appl:    Selecting Wes will be Puel's ultimate downfall.

It's a huge risk to play any of these kids against United and he probably won't, but I just dunno if I can face Benny getting an early doors red card in the first game of the season.

is it a bigger risk then selecting the other two?   I personally do not think so.

Although this is a DJ thread I was more making a point about the little niggly problems that we have just before the season starts ...   and mainly that Puel has said 'no more new players in' now ...    I just think we should be in a strong state of readiness and waiting like a coiled spring to start the season. OK you have no control over some things but others should have been put to bed a long time ago ...

Of course I bloody would. The club will most likely loan him out for the season and when he comes back YB29 will be gone and Wes will be almost finished. He's 35 in January.

Unless his agent thinks he can get a better contract giving the player an improved chance of game time elsewhere (unlikely) then it's a no brainer. It's not as if he's at Chelsea or some other buying club. He'll have a genuine chance with us to make a name for himself.

Think people are going a bit overboard on the Wes stuff. Yes, he's clearly on the decline and isn't a great defender. He's not some complete joke though. He's obviously a better choice than a teenager who's never played a senior game.

What about Benny?

Based on recent performances, I respectfully disagree. Puel’s inability and/or unwillingness to recognise this is baffling and bordering on the absurd.

Agree 500%.  This blind spot in Puel’s vision will most likely lose him this job.  Truly ridiculous.

Both Wes and Yohans contract is up summer 19 so we could only have 2 senior CBs at the club.

Worry about it on Transfer Deadline day Summer 2019 when we're down to 1 senior CB after Maguire's been sold and we're sitting on the money....I'm sure that's the clubs vision and strategy anyway.

Reportly over ‘assurances of his future development’ ..

Most likely.  I imagine he wouldn't want to waste another year of his development being played out of position by Hoofball Beaglehole

I highly doubt that the manager isn't able to see what you can. There is more to it than your rather simplistic suggestion.

Which is why I also suggested an unwillingness to recognise the obvious might also be at the root. However, I would hope his proximity to the player and to the entire playing staff doesn’t cloud his perspective and overall judgment. If it is player power that you’re alluding to, then we’re already doomed.

https://www.lcfc.com/news/798316/darnell-johnson-signs-new-threeyear-contract/press-release

- Darnell Johnson signs a new three-year contract with Leicester City Football Club
- The 19-year-old has been capped by England at every junior level up to Under-20s and was part of the side that won the UEFA U19 Euros title in June 2017

- The young defender was part of City’s Development Squad that finished third in Premier League 2 last term

- The England Under-20 international has featured in every one of Leicester City’s pre-season games ahead of the 2018/19 campaign

Having joined Leicester City’s Academy at the age of 10, the highly rated youngster has steadily risen through the ranks to earn a reputation as an exciting young English talent.

Johnson excelled as England lifted the UEFA U19 Euros title in June 2017. He played three times at the tournament including the full 90 minutes of the final in a 2-1 victory over Portugal.

Great News.  RIP Sir Wes and Benny.

Our Defence is shaping us nicely. Pace, Strength, height and no hoofing.  It will need time but this is more like it.

He has done very well in pre-season so fair play and good luck to the lad and well deserved for sticking at it while he was played out of position last season in the U23s.

No doubt his impressive performances in pre-season under the watchful eye of Puel have been the main influencing factor but i cant hep wondering if the bull***t move to AJAX stories planted in the media in April to try and force Leicester's hand may also have been an influencing factor.....which ultimately worked out exactly as I predicted.

I confess that it is a rarity in life but, for once, appears my cynicism proved correct...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ever wondered how these stories always make it into the press just as players are looking to negotiate a better deal...?!? I wonder if he has an agent?

Call me a cynic but I'll make an uneducated guess that Johnson will still be here next season......and that he might even earn himself an extra few quid and a better deal at LCFC as a result of this story...!
