Great news to hear, No settling in period needed. I just wonder why it is only a 3 year contract. Perhaps that's all he would agree to in the knowledge that if he doesn't make the team then he can move on while still only 22.

Maybe not quite ready yet for a start so a loan to January would help him gain valuable experience.

Why? If you only intend to play two CBS at the back, what named player would want to come to sit on the bench behind Maguire and Evans? Morgan when all fit, will be first sub. Man Utd is an odd one as Maguire and Evans are unavailable so would you really want to trust an unknown with Benalouane or even two unknowns? No, Morgan for his experience alone has to play, also, if Lukaku plays, he's the only one with anywhere near enough strength to do battle with him and his reading of the game is far superior to anyone else we have available. He may be past his best but still has much to give as back up. Do I expect our makeshift defence cope with United well ..... er no. I suspect we'll also have a very defensive midfield which is sensible but doubt one match will be our blueprint for the future.

Now now...being that sensible on this board really isnt good form you know!!

He was impressive in pre-season so good news. Strange then that we have been linked to two other CB's though this window because he looks like a player that could / should be starting cup games for us.

Though perhaps the idea is to send him out on loan Barnes style? He'd probably do quite well for a team in the championship.

Excellent news. Timescales work well if he gets a quality loan in ASAP. This time next year, we will probably be without Benny, Morgan, Harry and Evans will be a year older. Hopefully two new CBs embedded this year + a battle-hardened Johnson is a good base for next season.

The Championship loan window doesn't close until the end of the month, we'll probably wait until our business has finished and see what our options are like at the back and we'll probably send him out on loan.

Having joined Leicester City’s Academy at the age of 10, the highly rated youngster has steadily risen through the ranks to earn a reputation as an exciting young English talent.

Johnson excelled as England lifted the UEFA U19 Euros title in June 2017. He played three times at the tournament including the full 90 minutes of the final in a 2-1 victory over Portugal.

Based on his performances in pre-season (I watched him at Notts County and at the KP for the Valencia game) this is great news. He looks like he's going to be a really good option at CB.

Looks a great prospect, would like to see him spend the season on loan at a lower league outfit.

Happy for Darnell, looked really good and composed in pre-season. Despite his versatility, I'd rather have him play as centre-back in the future.

Here's to a glorious career! :appl:

I guess it'd be fatal to hand out contracts running longer than three years these days, regardless of whether you're talking about youth team or first team members. Four, five years or more are the exception. I guess it can also be a wage issue once you realize the player underperforms and you can't find a suitor.
