Me too, what’s happened to Hughes?  Isn’t he also older than some of the other defenders in the U23s (Johnson, Knight etc)?

Injured.....and Yes he is older and more experienced than many of the U23 players he played against last season which is probably why he coped so well. I think someone has  previously referred to our U23 success last season as "age-doping" which was a pretty accurate assesment

Personally, although he lacks the obvious physical attributes and strengths of Johnson and Hughes, Josh Knight looks the more complete and natural footballer for me .

Thank for the update. Just read that Chester article and it said he was 21, so not as old as I thought. Johnson is one that most excites me

What’s everyones thoughts on Josh Knight? He’s looked steady but not as spectacular as Johnson which is why he hasn’t caught the eye of many, maybe. But for me Knight has been equally as impressive.

It's a huge risk to play any of these kids against United and he probably won't, but I just dunno if I can face Benny getting an early doors red card in the first game of the season.

I realise that Ben-neh is a bit of a bombscare, but he's not yet had a red for us, right?

Yes he has.

Edit: Sorry he hasn't. I was remembering the horror tackle that should have got him a red and we replaced him immediately.

I'd bin off Benny at the first opportunity tbh. For how often he's going to feature you may as well give Johnson that 4th centre back slot as he can't be any worse than Benny and he'll definitely be considerably cheaper. It would probably be enough to convince DJ to sign a new contract too. Getting someone to take YB off us won't be easy though.

That said, think we have to be careful we don't get to carried away by pre season performances.

So is he currently not under contract?

So he's just playing for free?

Usually in this situation the club would keep him on a rolling monthly “contract” until they decide to release him or the player wants to leave.

Obviously this is not ideal and offers no security for either the club or the player.

Physically, he’s ready for the prem; question marks on his reading of the game, can see him atleast getting a prem game this season and it will be very interesting to watch.

Part of me thinks he’ll take to it just like Hamza has.

I’d be surprised if it happens, he’ll leave when his contract expires but he’s been here for 3 years now, only played when we’ve been desperate, been out on loan and still no-one wants him. The best thing for him would be to go on loan to a championship club.

Nope but it's right there bubbling under the surface just waiting to blow up at the most slapstick time. Even last night he's flying into tackles on the half way line

Worst signing of all time up to Slimani as in what he cost, what he's costing us and his worth now.

The guy is a bomb scare off and on the pitch - check out Wiki

We can't give him away, loan him so have to live with him.

He openly admits he's well paid and just sitting in Hamer style

We're certainly blessed with promising CBs, I just wonder why he was moved to RB, was it to accommodate Hughes or Knight.

Either way he done himself know harm last night and shouldn't be allowed to get away for free. A few games along side Evens or Morgan to advise him and he'd be away. He already has all of the other attributes needed to be a good CB.

It's time Benny was let go or released from his contract if we cannot get a sale or loan.

I wouldn't call him our worse signing he can play, just not within the rules.

You can't blame the player for our mistakes though.

We really only have 2 choices with him, Loan him out, with us paying part of his salary in the hope someone buys him, Or release him and save on his Salary. But we need him gone from the squad.

Did ok but still too early for him, against Udinese his positioning was horrendous at times.

thats probs DJ being abit rusty due to being played out of position most of last season.. he got caught out of position against Udinese, but how quick did he get across to put in a double block.. protecting his own mistake he showed good agility... had that been wes or benny that mistake may have led to a goal conceded.

from what i saw he had a good game bar that mistake, and another good game lastnight

Youngsters get a chance at every club during Pre Season, some impress but it doesn't necessarily mean they should be chucked into the first team. We have a lad who's shown decent signs, that's it.

Johnson is an option but throwing him in against United is a no from me.

Any news on this?

Not sure to be honest mate. Last I heard was that he’d been offered a new deal which his agent was trying to renegotiated.

I’ve kept a close eye on him for a couple of yrs now & lads a real talent that has all the natural physical attributes a player could wish for. He’s a Leicester lad & The club has high hopes for him so I would be amazed if a new long term deal wasn’t agreed. It’s probably just the usual greedy agent politics that’s delaying it.

When everything is hopefully agreed the club will no doubt look to send him out on loan to the lower leagues similar to what they did with Choudary & Chillwell

Benalouane was sent off against Burton in pre-season last year for a ridiculous tackle

More hauled off by Shakey right before the ref was about to send him off, decent ref let us off in order to have someone else get some pre-season minutes
