They both had 4 weeks of training, matches, travel and media pressure. Maguire played almost 7 games in that time, and Vardy picked up an injury halfway through.

Them missing a single game that we'd probably lose regardless isn't going to be the death of us (at some point in the next few years they'll both be gone anyway), so there's no reason they should be denied the holiday they're entitled to. They've earned it.

This thread is just another sign of how some fans are so wound up and fearful over the fact that we might have to field a side against Manchester United that isn't up to full strength.

FFS, can you at least give some of the World Cup participants some time off for holidays?

And where's similar outrage with regards to Okazaki? Yeah, right. Not as valuable as the other two...

We still have Iheanacho to do the work up front, who's just as apt as Vardy if given the appropriate service from midfield.

We've got Maddison who can pull the strings in midfield, Silva will be able to play in a more subdued role behind him (which suits him better).

Pereira will make his debut.

Only question mark is our centre-back situation - but we may still bring one defender in. Not as a starter, but an option from the bench if need be.

Even though I don't have that much faith in the Morgan-Benalouane partnership, let's not forget we've fielded Morgan with Wasilewski before and it worked (to some extent).

Iheanacho is more than good enough at the moment so that doesn't bother me.. Wes Morgan worries me at the best of times and putting someone else with him like Benny will most likely end up pretty bad.

I agree with others that we should let them have a break and get rested for the season ahead.  Much as I’d love to beat a troubled and possibly weakened Man U (that’s always a bonus game to win anyway, especially at OT), I’d rather Harry and Vards didn’t provoke any injuries that didn’t cause them to miss more games by coming back early.

What I hope most is that independent of the result, we put in a performance and Puel doesn’t get bashed for not bringing them back by force (we also know he would get the blame if he did bring them back and we lost if they were unfit or got injured).

Morgan and Wasilewski have played together. When Kante has been Infront of them it's worked okay. Remember when they played together without kante? lol everton at home, we managed to concede from a long punt from their GK which turned into a through ball straight through the middle of them.

I back Puel here, I think it's a much better idea to give the players a proper rest and preseason treatment to make sure they are physically and mentally in shape for the season ahead. Rushing players back and burning them out can ruin a player's form and physical attributes. I think the worst thing we can do actually is have a a half fit Maguire and Vardy on the pitch who put in a poor showing and / or get injured because they haven't gone through preseason which costs us more points in the long run.

I know Vardy had an injury but whats the other injury concerns and freshness all about? By next Friday it will have been nearly 4 weeks off?!?! lol

Maybe it’s about treating them as human beings and sticking to something we agreed with them.  Would rather we gave them an extra week off and didn’t piss off our arguably two best players. Especially with all the hype around Harry.

More concerned if we aren’t bolstering the squad with enough talent to cover for two players

Vardy, Morgan and Okazaki are expected to return to training next Monday.

The real problem here is the mismanagement of the football calendar by FIFA and the greed of cramming in as many games as possible. FFS they were starting Champions League qualifiers while the World Cup semi-finals were on.

Pretty much every other sport has a co-ordinated calendar that builds in a proper rest period.

What should be happening is the season should be kicking off at least a couple of weeks later to allow all World Cup participants a 3 week holiday and a proper pre-season.

If that means less games or less competitions and a bit less revenue, then so be it.

Yes i think that is the worry :( .. Wes Morgan and Benny could be in for a right stuffing.

I agree 100%. If they cared for our club they'd be ready to play against Manure.

But they are not forced to take it.

I agree. I am questioning why you would prefer to go to Ibiza or play in the Premier League.

Yes it will be written into agreements, but surely who would want to be sitting at home watching the game on TV, when you had the chance not to go on holiday and actually play in the match.

I would give up three weeks holiday anywhere at any cost to be able to play in the Man U game

I'm quite happy to just give them the three weeks off and bring them back into the side. They shouldn't need a full pre-season given they've been playing all summer anyway, players often come back from a 3 week injury and play.

Despite what Puel says I'd be surprised if they didn't start at Old Trafford.

At least be on the bench.

Don’t think it would have hurt them to have taken 2 weeks instead of the full 3. They’d probably then have been ok to start against Manu and still have had the same summer hols as most other working folk. Not saying the club should have forced them, (probably couldn’t anyway if the above posts are true) but would have thought they’d have wanted to get on with the new season, particularly in such a prestigious match.

Anyway, ultimately it depends on what other players are doing. If everyone is taking the full allowance then fair enough.

You aren't forced to take your wages, you could work for free... but you don't.
