Lot of other fans around the country saying the same thing! There is no guarantee of that at all. For me, we play some nice possession football, without really looking that consistently dangerous in attack, whilst also looking very soft in defence! I think many are mistaking decent possession and passing, as some sort of promise of success later on... I think from what I've seen so far, it's as likely if not more so, that this is the extent of what we can expect from Puel, i.e decent possession without doing much with it.

No there isn't a guarantee, I just believe it will. We're significantly better at set pieces from last year and we look better. I think once Soyuncu or Evans slot in with Harry our defence will look better. Yesterday we were just tactically wrong.

"But he is completely transforming our style and bringing through youth, which takes time!"... Is the same thing some will be saying in 2023 and League 1

It does take time to completely change everything.

Fvck me, do people not remember when Pearson first came back. We didn't win the league overnight. He had to completely change a style, most of the players and stuff in the backroom. There were games in which we got battered (Barnsley both home and away springs to mind). It took two seasons before he made us the side we became.

You can't expect it to completely happen over night. Klopp didn't make the Champions League with Liverpool in a season and it took Pep a year to get the right players in for his style. We can't keep hiring and sacking managers otherwise we will end up relegated.

Klopp and Pep didn't get thrashed by Bournemouth though . I could understand the calls for patience if I could see some progress but I cant. We're not conceding less and we're not scoring more goals. We pass the ball about in the middle third where we can do no damage and people think we're Barcelona.

It was just an example of time and progression, although Klopp did lost at Bournemouth in fact Liverpool conceded 4 there. We have created chances though. Vardy missed two good chances yesterday, Maddison hit the bar from one of them. It's the back four that concerns me more. We have two slow defenders and just because one of them can pass the ball people think he's Pique.

Klopp got made a fool of by Bournemouth though Webbo. Liverpool let them score four when three up.

Similar Pep got whacked by an out of form Leicester team

What bothers me is how isolated vardy has become ,as good as maddison is he doesn't seem to pull the defence about as much as shinji

It won't happen but would love to see a 3-4-1-2 with chilly and Ricardo as wing backs and maddison just in behind vardy and shinji/nacho

CP now has to bring Soyuncu or Evans into Morgan’s place which will sure up the defensive hole, we looked pretty decent in defence V Wolves other than a few first night wobbles from Evans we looked pretty solid.

Be great to see if all the Soyuncu hype is well founded his obligatory YouTube clips show him rather talented in defence and can cross a mean ball into the box, I rather think that if CP continues to pick Morgan over Soyuncu or Evans after his ban will certainly be his downfall as he will continue to be either outstripped for pace or some of his clumsy challenges will be giving the opposition an easy goal opportunity.

Such a shame really Morgan has been a great servant to the club but is getting a hell of a lot of stick from fans and pundits alike for being continually selected by CP which he isn’t going to turn down at his age and latter stages of his career, it’s tume for CP to stop being loyal if that is the case and start using the better talent he has at his disposal.

Vardy was given two good chances yesterday by Ghezzal and Maddison. The type of chances a Harry Kane would have liked

The biggest problem is we have a lot of knee jerk wankers for fans who think they know it all and really know fvck all. The modern game is shite and the managerial roundabouts that are being called for on here by the know fvck all tossers will only lead to a further gulf between the so called big clubs and the rest. Evolution of playing style, introduction of youth and new players does take time and tosspots are reacting like this after only 5 feckin games!

You don't have to ban me btw mods I will be doing that myself because if this is the consensus of so called fans represented by this forum then it's not for me, enjoy your know it all moaning and be very very careful what you wish for/ who WE might get!

Don't go mate...I need you,to help to keep sanity on this forum.....I don't want to feel "home alone". With all these nasties around..:tumbleweed:

Wow, just wow.

If you ever needed to prove a point how pointless stats are....

Isn't this what people use to tell us how we should've lost to Wolves, though?

They had more chances, more of the play and deserved to win. We have more chances, more of the play yet deserve to lose.

You can't have it both ways.

Is it any worse than "sack the manager every time we dont win" tho

Whilst i agree sack the manager does not help we have been stuck in a cycle ever since the Don left of band aiding the damage.

We do need to stick with a manager but Puel isnt the man for this long term vision.

Tbh I very rarely use stats, I do on the odd occasion but generally not and i'm not trying to have it both way.

I concede they did have more chances, more of the play, deserved to win, but didn't. That's the way it is sometimes.

I have to smirk everytime I see a stat quoted though, a couple of year ago the majority of people took the piss out of other teams using stats, most notably Spurs (Maybe Burnley?), we didn't because they didn't favour us, we more than anyone should know how pointless stats are, however now they favour us, now they alter points and make things look rosier quite alot of people are all over them, despite the ultimate stat, the result, not favouring or going for us alot of the time.

I understand that and that's why I think he should be given a minimum 5-10 more games, taken us up to around December, where a new manager would have time to assess and then have the transfer window as well.

This idea though, that every manager just needs time and they will be successful, is a myth!

Time should be given but there should be a limit on what is afforded them and there should be clear signs of progression.

Are we showing clear signs of progression from last season after spending millions and bringing in Puel's targets? For me, not yet. We pass the ball well and keep possession, but struggle to break teams down and look very weak in defence and easy to play against. The system is wrong and doesn't get the best out of the players we have and the big concern is, Puel doesn't see it, or worse, too stubborn to accept it.

I'm curious to see how we respond against Huddersfield. I think that will give us a good indication of what kind of shape we are in.

'bounce back as we do', what a horrendous outlook to have

What's so horrendous about "bouncing back" ?

Isn't that what you want to do after any defeat, to anyone, in any season?

There will always be a defeat, no matter how good you are.   We were brilliant in 2015-16, but still lost 3 league games.   It was how we reacted to those defeats that kept the whole season bubbling along, rather than tamely falling away.

The same in life.   It's full of setbacks eg divorce, being made redundant from a job you love, being diagnosed with cancer, recovering from a car crash, breaking your leg playing football, going to funeral after funeral as your parents and loved ones die.

Life is full of horrible events, which you can't always avoid.   It's how you handle and "bounce back" from them that matters.

Which is exactly what we were warned about by Soton fans.

The die has been cast again with us, and as you say this is what he is all about it seems, so not sure why we should be expecting anything different, or an up turn in fortunes.

I just wish Puel was better at communicating as to what he is trying to achieve when using the formations he has ...his english is too limited.

But my biggest concern is the way he seems to play players out of their best position.

Maguire plays better in a back 3 for England but always in a back 4 for Leicester.

Amartey was voted into the African cup of nations team after playing in a back 3 for Ghana but ive never seen him used in this role for us.

Trying to get Danny Simpson to play in a more attacking manner was never going to work...

Ricardo and Chilwell are both much better suited in a wingback role but Puel keeps playing them as fullbacks

Tried playing Gray as a striker against Liverpool rather the Nacho again didnt work.

Iborra,Silva seemed to have been sidelined..all credit to Albrighton for his commitment when he he comes on as a sub after similarly getting left on the bench

I wonder if the players are getting confused as to what their roles in the team are
