Well we’ve not really been in a relegation battle since he’s arrived, something that’s not happened since we came up (bar 15/16)

The end of last season under Puel was very much relegation form if I remember right

But at least we had the excuse of being safe and lacking the 5% motivation in games, we were supposed to be fighting for our lives under Claudio and would have been relegated if he’d had not been sacked.

Has the playing style change been a success?

Valid point.

Parts of it yes, IMO.

I like how comfortable we are in possession and how much better our passing has become, BUT and it's a big but, I'm also not fooled into thinking we are some great footballing side, just because we can keep the ball for longer and pass more accurately. Any manager can get a team to do that if they wish. It still has to be effective in scoring goals and keeping them out!

It's important to acknowledge that making these changes though, is not an easy, quick thing to do and it has taken time to get us to this point and will take more. It's just how much more time do we allow, before we question whether Puel actually has the ability to make this heavy possession/passing style, genuinely effective.

He's had 41 games and two transfer windows, plus a full pre-season, so for me, I really want to see some good results and performances with a clear indication that we are going in the right direction in terms of this style being effective. If we are still freely conceding and struggling to break teams down by the time we get to December, then I think we need to seriously consider a change, depending on who is available of course.

Only because i'm hopelessly in love with the man.

It'd be like getting with the ex you constantly argued with though. It wouldn't work out.

Unsure I agree with that. short memory

With all due respect I don't he's talking about the title winning season. Those last two or three months under Ranieri the football was absolutely rancid.

Definitely not. Amazing character and awful how everything ended but we have evolved and are a completely different footballing side now. I think it would be a complete mess if he came back in and started changing things.

If we do change, then we need a continuation of the good things Puel has done here, i.e youth investment and playing style but obviously someone who can also address the failings or future failings of Puel if he does indeed get the sack at some point.

Howe or Rodgers tick those boxes for me, but Puel still needs a chance to get it right first.

That's the kind of name I think you've got to look at. I think I've finally snapped on Howe and I'd have him here. He's a good manager.

Managers are like girlfriends in that you remember the good times and forget all of the shite. No to Claudio even though I think he's a real gent.

I think the absolute worse thing the owners could do, is sack Puel and not have a manager like Howe or Rodgers lined up.

I'd prefer we stuck with Puel otherwise, as I really don't want to change the manager for the sake of it. It has to be a top Manager like one of these.

Granted, there is no guarantee of success and either of these could bomb, but I think both would match our ambitions and be the best we could realistically hope for.

last time Howe left Bournemouth he quit because he was home sick, Jokanovic at Fulham would be my choice but I couldn't see him leaving them

Some things are bigger than the sport itself and that’s exactly what Claudio did here for us, it was a miracle, the greatest moment in team sport history and it should be left at that. If he came back and failed that would taint the love we all have for him.

They're two names that stand out for me. The football is on a similar track to what we're trying to implement under Puel but I believe that both would get us playing with that bit more purpose. I actually wouldn't be that surprised if they gave Puel until the end of the season providing that we're not under serious threat of relegation and then went to try and get a manager of that ilk.

he should come back to unveil a statue of him with the trophy and to wave to fans at HT not to manage the team

Thought it was the right decision at the time, in hindsight will never know for sure. Would take him all day long over his replacements Shakespeare and Puel. Those two not fit to lick Ranieri's boots.

There's no manager who guarantees success here. These decisions have to be well calculated.

Bringing Ranieri here initially, in theory, looked a mental decision but it really did become the perfect storm so regardless of what happened after, it was a brilliant decision.

Ranieri in the second season was everything I feared he would be in the first.

I think that too. As long as we are away from danger, a cushion of 7-8 points minimum throughout the season etc, then he will get until the end of the season. Finishing below 10th though and he will be gone in the Summer I think, especially if either of these two are available.

I think both Rodgers and Howe have a real affinity with their clubs, and so can only see them leaving if done properly, i.e, end of season and all agreed amicably etc.

So... that could all work out nicely timing wise, if Puel does indeed leave.

can we just stop mentioning rogers - he is crap and he is desperate to get back to the pl from the div 1 club (==SPL) that he is at.   This just makes me feel very queasy...  the more he gets mentioned the more attractive i find puel.

No way, team was almost complete when he took over, even the players say the title win was built on belief and momentum from the great escape. Charming fellow who was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
