Considering my friend said he saw a fox cross the road in front of the King Power one night, (well a bit further up Filbert Way), I think the name seems apt :P  (He was just annoyed he didn't have a camera ready).

Yeah the day after the 'copter crash, a fox trotted up towards all the flowers outside the stadium. Totally shows Vichai remains with us. Why would you want to change our nickname?

I agree. We need something that celebrates local history with more positive connotations.

It's a great nickname.  I choose not to associate it with the hunting w@nkers but with the beautiful animal itself.

Look at some of the crap nicknames around - The Toffees for instance, or The Cherries, The Owls, Seagulls etc.

We are blessed.

We have historically also been known as the Filberts, but that would offend vegans, like most things.

'Foxes' does not glorify fox hunting anymore than the PHG (the number of times I've had to explain that one )

Fossils was our original nickname. I suspect that someone would manage to take offence at that.

"Small brown canines Never quit" ?

"Filbert the upright walking canine mascot" ?

Don't have quiet the same ring to them.

Used to have nickname " The Filberts" too. Perhaps we can substitute "The KPs"

Absurbity aside, surely foxes are made more lovable by the fact we are called the Foxes and have one of the best cuddly based mascots around?

Foxes was adopted by the club because of the strong hunting tradition in the county.  The old crest used to have crossed riding crops behind the fox mask.  You're right about the PHG, but why did the club adopt it?  It sounds like a hunting horn.

No one has actually been offended by anything.   Any offence was imagined by the OP.

Surprised at the apathy of the Foxes. I am very proud that we have a unique emblem with a heritage reference.

Cruzeiro, from Brazil, also use Foxes as a nickname I think?

I don't know why anyone would take offence to the nickname Foxes (not Fox Hunters). It's a very "these days if you say you're English you get thrown in jail" way of thinking to assume that anyone would be.

Firstly this isn’t based on a report of this happening, but is purely based on my observation of where the world is going. With a lot of change happening in many countries renaming things because they were named after someone who caused an offence, pulling down statues or outrage cos someone quoted (love or hate him) Winston Churchill it got me thinking will there ever be a day where we are asked or enforced a name change from The Foxes?

The origin is well known from Leicestershire being the birthplace of Fox Hunting; with that now put to bed is it only a matter of time before the politics brigade start looking at our name as ‘glorifying’ fox hunting, causing untold hurt to those that take offence from the old sport? Would you be bothered? Where would it end? Arsenal name change anyone? Anyone like to see it changed?

Recent bbc article below that got me thinking about it. Slow Wednesday clearly...

As a vegetarian, anti-fox hunting, animal lover I'm deeply offended by our nickname. We should go with something more pro-nature like 'Trees' or 'Forest'. Although that reminds me of deforestation, I'm sad now.

I think we're ok, mate.

The biggest threat for "fox" becoming offensive I see is if the same people who don't know the difference between "would have" and "would of" start spelling the anglo-saxon expletive which starts with "f" and ends with "uck's sake" phonetically.

Media can have a strange effect over time. 35 years ago Loughborough UTD were "the bells".

The crest has the carillon on it! Now for some reason they are called the lodgers.

I know they play at Lodge Farm but some gimboid who knows how to set up website changed history.

Here are reasons why this won't happen:

1) Foxes are still a common animal in the area, and will continue to be associated with Leicester/Leicestershire/Rutland even without the connotation of hunting.

2) Foxes have a long history in mythology, folklore, and storytelling, and the kind of attributes that have been attributed to them (notably being sly and cunning tricksters) make them a good mascot for a sports team.

3) Foxes are often depicted in popular culture, and people tend to think they're cute (when they're not being pests).

but most of all,

4) The national and international media can't help themselves but to use nicknames. As apparently only Man City can be "City," and Chelsea (along with Birmingham City, to a smaller extent) have been bestowed the "Blues" nickname, the media will just stick with what they've been doing and call Leicester the Foxes. As much as the media may be sensitive to opponents of fox hunting, I think the chance to use headlines such as "10-man Leicester Outfox [Opponent]" means more to them. lol

we have the world's best badge,on any football shirt.!!!   What's on it??  The fearless, cheeky, sly ,...paw licking, chicken eating fox...

we are the foxes, and have been for over 135+ years. We accompany our great badge with the Posthorn gallop, that is my club..fk Pc!!!

I have took this with me around the world,I ain't from RL or any media, to me and my mind we are the foxes,so why some dozos, think it's

not right,or are ashamed of even being associated with being called the foxes....can go and take a walk...on the other side of the fence of Trees!!
