Former Liverpool captain Tommy Smith, who helped the club to domestic and European success in the 1960s and 1970s, has died aged 74.

Known as the "Anfield Iron", Smith had an 18-year career at Anfield, during which he won four league titles, plus the European Cup in 1977.

Proper Anfield legend and a true leader. RIP

Tommy Lawrence, Chris Lawler, Geoff Strong, Tommy Smith, big Ron Yeats, Emlyn Hughes, Ian Callaghan, Roger Hunt, Tony Hateley, Ian St.John, Peter Thompson. Great team! Bill Shankly in charge. Those were the good old days when players' shirts were numbered 1 to 11, goalkeepers always wore green shirts, and the outfield positions were right full back, left full back, right half, centre half, left half, outside right, inside right, centre forward, inside left, and outside left. Oh, and just one substitute. There was none of this modern squad number and dozens of subs nonsense!

Even if I say so myself,I do the best Chewbacca impression about.

Remember if I was with my mates and a bloke with long hair walked by,I was prompted to make the noise. With usually a 10 minute lesson afterwards trying and failing miserably to teach my mates who without fail would ask” teach me to do that”Pathetic attempt after Pathetic attempt followed by the master!

something as daft as the chewy noise, could cause so much hilarity amongst grown men.

RIP big man

With a name like Chewbacca, it surely must have been a smoking-related disease.

Just say 'no', kids.

Friends with Saville and Glitter, say no more.

Frankly, you’ve already said too much.

Remember watching Freddie Starr's backing tapes routine for the first time, literally fell off my seat laughing, rolling around on floor in hysterics. Luckily my passengers got me back to the wheel just in time!
