Not really surprising that this felt like how Ranieri ended up playing, endless aimless long balls (Albrighton by far the worse culprit today). It was basically the same squad as he had towards the end of his reign here.

Big rebuild needed.

 

How anyone can argue that the bulk of our squad is anything more than bang average (possibly being generous) is beyond me.

6 of this side started and held Man City in the League Cup. We finished that game with both, albrighton and Gray so that's 8 of the players involved today. Morgan and Evans have both been effective of late and part of recent success on top of that. James fitness and ability to be effective the biggest risk but anyone saying that side was not good enough to beat a bottom half league 2 side is massively inaccurate.

That defence is still of premiership quality. Morgan has played well in the last few games. Evans has been solid since we signed him. Fuchs always gives 100% and the same with Simpson, he had a great game against Everton. 

 

Playing Choudary was always going to happen as he will have rested Ndidi and Mendy, Albrighton is first choice. Ghezzal has started a few and been on the bench often. Okazaki won the league with us and Nacho cost us 25. We have a squad and we have to use it. 

 

The only gamble was James and he was awful. 

No, he is at fault because ultimately that's his team that he's picked & ordered to lump it up to nowt the first half, not enough motivation when we went down.

 

The team should've been good enough though. They're midtable League 2, Ward, Simmo, Morgan, Evans, Fuchs, Choudhury, Ghezzal, Albrighton, Shinji & Kelechi should've been enough; James was a calculated & fair risk but he didn't look good enough in the first half, maybe it was with the formation because the backline was all over the place for their first goal.

 

No excuses for any of the lads tonight, let us down massively.

I feel his confidence is at a huge low for some reason so why play him for a whole game when clearly half the times it looks as if he doesn’t want to be playing, he’s a big lad and should be clearly beating some players to the ball but how many times did he actually win an aerial challenge?

Hugely disappointed in today’s result but FairPlay to Newport they played well and wanted it more they upped their game puffing out their chests at playing a former premier league winning side and our display in turn was an insult to the travelling faithful !!

 

As for CP in or out I’ll leave that decision to the club, but following today’s game and our chance to progress in the FA cup and that poor team he played today I’m slightly leaning towards a change in management but then who will come in who is free to take the role ??

I can’t really imagine he’s asked them to lump it forward to a striker that is at a huge disadvantage height wise against their centre halves, however he should have got a message across during the first half to address that. I admit that was poor by him also. Okazaki should have offered more in the link up play and Nacho could have offered runs in the channels and pulled them around rather than being easy to mark.

The fact that Vardy publicly criticised Puel speaks volumes. I don’t think for one minute the majority of those lads believe in him, probably explains today’s shoddy effort.

I really don't think he publicly criticised him.....he just said that the new style of play doesn't work as well with his current attributes but HE needs to work on that.

Can't believe people defending Albrighton. He was average today and gave away a ridiculous penalty.... if that had been ghezzal, he'd of been getting pelted now just like amartey did first game.... seems certain players get different treatment

The Puel haters are in their element now look at them get that knife in and turned . It was a classic cup shock a mixture of poor shooting and great defending. They all want him out but not one of the clowns can come up with a better option. We might go on to do a Burnley and qualify for the Europa league what fun Thursday nights in Azerbaijan. Puel will get blamed for sending us there .

agreed Oldbrighton turned up today as much as the effort was appreciated it just wasn't happening, I think he needed resting tbh clueless at the end.

WTF? If everyone else applied themselves like he did, we wouldn't have lost today. His handball was an abberation as I'd have made him our MOTM. He's no fancy dan, but he stands out in his energy, positivity and forward mindedness.

I think his work rate earns him a bit of credit when it comes to an average performance.

Yes he has fantastic work rate, better than most but you can't excuse what he did today. Amartey got slated first game for a silly handball but he got more abuse because people don't like him, simple
