I do fear that fan pressure will force him out if we do end up dropping to 10th or 11th though, which would be wrong. We're still carrying a huge number of players who, when together on the pitch, can only play a certain way - a way that doesn't work against teams that sit back against us. Watford attacked us, Chelsea attacked us, Man City attacked us and Everton tried. They're the teams that the counter-attack works against. It doesn't work against teams that sit off us, like Cardiff etc. Against those sides we should be passing around them, keeping possession, moving their defenders out of position and creating an abundance of opportunities for Vardy and whoever else is up top, but our squad is still so thin in that regard. Puel needs time to get this team playing so they can successfully adapt their game to the different teams that they come up against. The counter-attack worked in the title-winning season because nobody respected us and they all expected us to be fighting relegation. It's not the same anymore. We need to evolve, and Puel is doing a good job while keeping us competitive and actually giving us a chance to qualify for Europe again. Stability is key. Under Ranieri and Shakespeare, we were heading towards the drop zone on both occasions. Give Puel time like we did with Nige and good things will happen. Sack him, and I fear it's a slippery slope towards relegation as we pinball from one coach to the next with different styles, identities and ways of playing that'll soon end with relegation to the Championship and potentially years of trying to get back to the PL, dreaming of being 7th in the top tier. Somebody will bash you for 'playing down our title win' We won by 11 wonder man so nobody should be able to stop us. Those wonder man want a pizza style manager recruitment style so we need to replace the manager every 3 months by now

I think Puel regardless of how mediocre/uninspiring/clueless/gutless (delete as appropriate) he might seem to some supporters (I'm one of them) he should stay until the end of the season - then having in mind our position in the table, his handling of the team etc etc his job should be reassessed. I can't say I trust in Puel and have much belief in him but I trust in Top and I believe he will do what's right

I think if CP can achieve that and and some quality in the summer and deliver us a top half finish this season with the young players all a year older and with more games behind them we will be set for a great season next season. Pinching this quote from the Barnes thread as it basically sums up exactly how I see things going for Puel. We've seen how his signings have improved the squad - Ricardo is arguably our best signing since Kanté and came here because of Puel - and we've started to strip away some of the deadwood in the squad. In the summer when the majority of league-winners contracts expire then that'll free up a load of wages and we can look at adding a few more quality buys, as well as bring back loan players. We'll also have Amartey back from injury who was looking much-improved under Puel's stewardship. He's given more gametime to younger squad members than any manager in recent years and it's paying dividends. We've got talent out on loan who look to be an improvement on (at least) the squad players we have currently, and as they mature, improve and gel together we'll see big improvements as a team (and a reduction in naive mistakes, like Maddison's dive). He's got us into one of our highest ever league positions despite performing WAY under par on several occasions, and he's done so whilst dealing with a myriad of suspensions, injuries, and individual mistakes. We could have been favourites to get into the FA cup final for the first time in years were it not for a couple of poor penalties (out of his control). He's helped to guide the team through one of the most emotionally difficult periods our club has ever had sincerely and with dignity. --------------------------- He's not perfect - I think we can all agree that some performances have been pretty dire - but he's absolutely a 'builder' like NP was and his vision is coming together slowly but surely. With a decent end to the season and further astute transfers in the summer months we could be in a very strong position (relative to our history) as a club - be that under Puel's long-term management or otherwise.

Matt Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 I was looking for a Puel thread that was about reports on him or discussed him, highlighting good, bad or indifferent parts of his tenure...seems they’ve all been closed or disappeared Anyway, guess this thread will do

M0901 Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 I know a lot of LCFC fans are anti-Puel here but, one actually ringing TalkSport last week to say he's the worst manager we've ever had... It completely baffles me. Like, really, really, baffles me.
Mehrez Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 Time for a reality check anyone https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/claude-puel-calls-leicester-city-2420929
Blanchflower78 Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 Not a Puel fan but he makes a lot of sense in this piece (for a change!)

I will have to question his inclusion of Everton, West Ham and Wolves in the financial stakes. That is horseshit, without some context. We could compete with them but we are choosing not to spend the money they have done (Wolves maybe arent as big a spenders as the other two). This is likely to be down to the expansion of the stadium and the new training ground, or our long term model.
AjcW Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 Really good answers from him there, particularly enjoy this... “Ah, the image! I saw in the past a lot of images with different managers,” he sighed. “They had a fantastic image, but now their teams play in the Championship.”

He probably meant he can’t compete with Birmingham, Liverpool and London as cities also.
AlloverthefloorYesNdidi Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 That article should have been titled: Football for Dummies, by Claude Puel
brucey Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 Massive respect to Puel for his honesty and for defending himself like that. His press conferences may be boring but at least they’ve got substance. Puel in
stillwater Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 A real good read from Him, give the guy a break you can clearly see he’s trying to build things and is working to the owners plans. yes he’s made mistakes but we are still 7th 1 place behind the top 6 which we in reality have no chance of competing with on a regular bases. He’s steered this young group of players through the most traumatic times in the clubs history all with a quite dignity. I belive it is now time for us all to get behind him and shoot his name fromthe terraces
z-layrex Posted 11 January 2019 Posted 11 January 2019 He's our greatest ever manager and half you lot don't ****ing deserve him.
