Ben Chilwell's Message for Leicester Fans

Recommended Posts

It's bad when it comes to a young player pleading with the fans like this, as a fan it is a bloody tough watch at the minute, with only small glimpses of what could be. However we also need to remember it is only 100 days since our chairman died, the club are still feeling the after affects, which could take months to get over.

What I find quite telling is that the younger players all seem eager to come out and defend Puel. Not much at all from our more experienced pros.

Fortunately, that's the latter ones who won't be there in the near future.

Jamie did post a picture of him hitting himself on the head, which I assume is him taking responsibility for missing that great chance Barnes set up, so indirectly...

A decision will need to be made fairly soon though. Doesn't his contract run out in June 2020? If so we will enter next season with a manger essentially a dead man walking unless we extend his contract in the summer.

i think this is already the case

The season is over now so we might as well start Hamza, Barnes and Soyuncu for the rest of the season and see if they are ready for the Premier league.

I am not Puel...but I would be picking these 3, for the rest of the season...

Soyu/Evans....Soyu/Maguire...I don't care, but Soyu should now be put forward!!

Either Barnes &Gray,or.   Barnes/Gray...I would go for both...

Hamza..Tielemans...then Ndidi sitting behind,, with.Maddison in front, interchanging and linking with Tielemans..Mendy/Ghezzal coming in  off the bench.

I might even give Nacho his reins, and say to him I am giving you 5 games!! Go out and earn the fans respect, using Vardy off the Bench, but with Vardy

Taking him under his wing..!!

we still need 8-10pts...I would like to give this team and Bench the next 5 games..

Barnes should be starting anyway unless he regress’s. As for the others, lets get 40 points first.

They're allowed some time off for themselves during the week, appropriately, surely?

lol this has to be a joke surely, a pint two days before a game is not a problem, do you not drink on a Saturday because your back in work on the Monday?

I think we’ll all find out soon enough that we are playing at being the new Southampton. I doubt Chilwell will start next season in a Leicester shirt. We’ll make plenty of money from developing and selling younger players, but we’ll only end up feeding the sharks, not swimming with them.

Its a great rallying call from Chilwell but this isnt an edition of Football Manager where we dont have to sell players as we are in control. We know the Le Tissier loyal footballer is far and wide these days with players and managers are ready to pack up and head for great footballing nations like China and Qatar.

We have a great nucleus but we know this team will break apart. Maguire is 90% certain to go and every time I see him interviewed he talks about how he loves playing the big games. Can we keep the likes of Riccardo, Ndidi or even Chilwell himself? Lets see how loyal and patient he is with the club if Man City come in for him in the summer.

For me, we have the players but they are under-performing.Its either down to Claudes tactics or the players.Either way with the squad we have we shouldnt be under-performing as we are at the moment.

Except it's been obvious since October that a decision will be made in the summer... Which is why the boo boys need to just shut up for 13 more games. Unless he pulls out great escape under Pearson standard form from here he'll be gone in the summer, we all know it, whinging now achieves nothing but creating an atmosphere players don't want to play in.

Wasnt just a pint. Four players very publicly were drinking in London before three of them started less than 48 hours before a game (around 36 hrs)

Totally agree. New manager will need to generate funds, so expect McGuire and Chilwell to go at least. Probably several others too. Not much point kidding ourselves about that either.

is rite.

as for the booing, if we don't boo them now they'll have all left by the time we get to proper rinse them. same as everyone saying it's good we have such a young squad, in 2 or 3 years we'll be world beaters. well, er, we won't, cos they will all have left if they're any good, cos we are playing so badly all the fu cking time.

36 hours before a game at 12am in London?

Ridiculous comparison to make.

I agree with your idea and think it is correct. I would still play Vardy as he is our best striker and will be next season in my opinion.

Your midfield choice i fully agree with. Tielmans if we have a chance to sign him permanently in the summer, I would start him every game.

Chilwell incidentally was abused a lot on here last season and he's improved dramatically. I was merely referring to his contradictory article....

It misses most of the points on why fans are so disconnected and at a loss with what they are seeing in home games. There is an argument for writing off the next few seasons whilst these young players get the supposed experience that will help them all fulfil their potential but it's a big ask, a huge leap of faith. It's so difficult to get behind Puel than it is the players he is investing in, that in itself is also contradictory but this is what Puel's regime is. It's all a muddle and the fans are left thumbing a floppy up their 'arris's.

So you're saying booing works?

I honestly don't know, but it's really a tough sell to fans to just blindly go along with it. There's also a massive chance that whilst in pursuit of this, the more advanced ones will be poached by the elite clubs. I still think it's the right way to go, maybe there needs to be a balance between young players and experience it certainly seems we are going from one extreme to another and we need a blend. The goal as a club is to build a team that progresses, you don't always have to do this with all young players, sometimes players with a point to prove can come in and improve as well, this is down to the managers artistry in getting the best out of players. There seems to be an acceptance that Puel comes in to his own when he builds a team of kids and they go on to do the business, I hope that's the case but is there any evidence to this? I can accept being a work in progress as long as there's an identity and I struggle to get that from Puel, his stubbornness and persistence with a midfield that cannot play possession football undoes a lot of his good work. It's become painfully obvious since January last year that we were struggling to unlock deep defences but we failed to bring in a single central midfielder with the skill set to try and do that. The only two midfielders comfortable in possession were both Iborra and Silva and neither prospered nor were afforded the same chances that two liabilities on the ball in Mendy and Ndidi have been afforded. Then we move on to the attack, yet again not a single forward has been recruited under Puel and we currently have 2 strikers with 1 league goal between them all season and they are fast setting new records. Puel moved on all other fringe strikers and rightly or wrongly, it's hard to ignore this.

I hope Tielemans can ease the home form, his skill set is exactly what we've been crying out for. I really hope it works out for Puel and the players but the players and the media can moan all they want about the unrest amongst the fans but there's clearly issues between Puel and the same players themselves and Puel will be gone in the summer if they don't pick up results. It kind of makes all things irrelevant.

Didn't mean to quote you twice when I started (read the whole thread from start to finish, and you talk a lot of sense fella)

re: Iborra and Silva - they were seen in training every week, and didn't really grasp the nettle when they had their chance.  I feel most sorry for Silva, as he probably could have done a good job in place of Mendy (couldn't be weaker or slower to pass) alongside an Ndidi with instructions just to destroy and recycle (it's when he tries too much he gets in trouble).  Vicente, sexy beast that he is, was always too slow and a luxury player.  We could have maybe kept him for plan B, Fellaini style, but that's my only regret.

I agree Tielmans can hopefully be the quality and goal threat in the middle.

No, booing is a pretty pointless thing during games as it could well effect the players and I find it pathetic anyway but it is to be expected. I dont necessarily agree with the party line that we have to be some sort of hopeless fanatic who is emotionless to the dross we have had to repeatedly endure for 13 months.

I on occasion will loudly sigh, swear and get frustrated at the match as it unfolds but singling out players or the manager is stupid whilst the game is on. A loud chorus of boos at the end has and will continue to happen in football for eternity, and if theres ever the appropriate time to vent your feelings its then.
