To perform week in week out to the standard that he achieves is a rare quality in itself. He’s one of the most underrated players in the league and this reflects no more so than within our own fanbase. I think its quite easy to just define him through his graft and industry and unfortunately his composure, drive and football intelligence are often overlooked. Perhaps its because he’s good at everything but doesnt overlly excel at anything (bar his graft and industry) and thats maybe why he gets defined in this way. Either way its a damn shame he’ll likely not feature for the rest of the season as our first 11 is weaker without him. Fully agree. He is really our Beckham. His crosses are exceptional and consistent. I don’t know why this is not mentioned more often. Puel prefers players to play on the ground, but he can also see how effective his long balls are which is why he is in the team. He doesn’t wait a second longer to deliver his crosses. Without him, we will not have no one to deliver those fast long accurate upfield. If Gray plays and with Chilwell on the other side, we will unfortunate only see boring slow buildups from the wings that we have been complaining about.

He's been one of our most consistent players ever since he got his first run in the team. He seems to up his game each season. No-one whips a ball in like him and he's adding goals to his game as-well. What's not to like?

A daft former Villa manager once called Marc into his office and said similar words.
lcfcsnow Posted 8 February 2019 Posted 8 February 2019 This isn't very good for my suspicious mind, but he's had more or less four years without injury, signs a new long term contract that I wasn't sure about anyway and then one match later he's out for the season, training ground injury.
Thefoxinoz Posted 8 February 2019 Posted 8 February 2019 Everyone mentions how Gray, Ghazzel and Barnes need to step up! Barnes maybe as he appears to have some talent, Ghazzel has not shown a great deal and Gray is as greedy as he was prior to Puel taking over. I just don't see Gray changing his ways to all of a sudden look up and pass the ball before he either loses it or blasts it into the crowd.

You may as well here this from FT. He works for the government. The Russian government. He's on weird Russian steroids which is why he can run around for 90 minutes and not be bothered what the fans think. I've heard Putin got the gear off Fatima Whitbread. Mark had to arm wrestle his horse apparently. City, never a dull moment.

Winchesterfox Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 The decision to recall Barnes is looking even better now.
Foxhateram Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Rumour has it that he's needed the op for a while and Barnes's recall was to give Marc the opportunity to do so.
Jonezy Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Dang it. Was hoping for Barnes and Albrighton as the main wingers for the rest of the season.
ronnup Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Dreadful news. Leaves us with a decent first 11 and nothing as back up. Gray and Ghezzal are simply shit.
reynard Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Big blow our squad is really starting to look thin in numbers and quality.

His figures are gray and Ghezzal level (two players who get crucified on here).
foxy boxing Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Terrible news, we need the other players like Ghezzal and Gray to step up. when one door is locked shut another is able to open, which player will be able to walk through!
Nicolo Barella Posted 9 February 2019 Posted 9 February 2019 Well, I was against it originally, but recalling Barnes, more so than ever in light of this, was the right move. If he can establish himself and get into the groove, he will be in a great position.

Ghezzal has been found another niche....when called upon he has replaced Maddison, and done a good job. So he can cover,Barnes..Gray..and Maddison. Super-sub already in the program... Unlike some,I actually think he IS a decent player!! And a few agitators should get off his case!!

The chances are also not only the final deliveries which are the best in the team in open play, but also the quick build up plays that he contributes towards, the running that keeps momentum going, the spaces he helps the team exploit. As for goals, not sure others are doing much better from midfield? He is certainly a player that gets under appreciated (including by a small portion of City fans) if you look purely at the stats and not the games.
AjcW Posted 23 February 2019 Posted 23 February 2019 We’ve not lost at all this season when he’s played the full 90 minutes* 8 games. But still a significant amount. Anyone who was mad enough to think he isn’t an important player for us only has to look at the shit show since he was ruled out for the season. *ive given myself a bit of creative licence saying as he was subbed off on 89 against palace ?
TheUltimateWinner Posted 28 March 2019 Posted 28 March 2019 Great news, our most consistent player. Always seems to win his place back and I expect him to do the same again when fit.

Fox92 Posted 28 March 2019 Posted 28 March 2019 Thankfully Brendan has said we need more out wide though. And I agree because our wingers get away with a lot. Less than 5 goals and 5 assists per season for a winger isn't good enough. Hopefully we buy a quality winger in the summer.
AKCJ Posted 28 March 2019 Posted 28 March 2019 With over a month and a half of the season to go I can't see him not getting fit considering he's back in training.
Sampson Posted 28 April 2019 Posted 28 April 2019 Got to say, after a rusty first 10-15 minutes, he was absolutely outstanding today. Think it showed how his dinks over the top can still be often our best outlet in games and we've missed that a little as even though he might not have the pace of Gray or Barnes he offers a different dimension to our play.
