Smith is going to be tough to get out. He's probably the best cricketer on either side, But if we get the rest of them out it doesn't matter.

Great atmosphere, not like the fussy posh sods at Lords

The London matches really are poor for atmosphere.

Could you have imagined the noise in the WC final had it been at Headingley or Edgbaston?

Torn between being excited at our start and hoping it doesn't get to a point whereby we are losing wickets before day 2 has even started in the hope that we can wrap up a win on day 4!

I did enjoy some of TMS during the WC when Aggers (I think it was) suggested that it must be the first time 'Who Let the Dogs Out?' had been played at Lords

Im struggling to get my head out of one day cricket mode.

As soon as anybody scores a few runs im sat tutting and thinking we could do with breaking this partnership pretty quick ?

The members don't want rif-raff like you lowering the tone.

They bloody got it one year, asked to leave the mound stand by tea.

Back in the day the group of us that went had a "6 pint rule" - ie you couldn't enter the ground until you had sank that, wasn't uncommon for us to get in at 3am grab 4-5 hours sleep then get to the pub to sink six before the start. Fell asleep once behind the nursery end on the green and got woken up after everyone has gone about 730.

We had a fella called Andy come with us to the test match we saved in Auckland and he was so hungover he said he'd meet us at lunch for the final day, we told him he had to go to the Fox to do his six pints - he got in and sent us a picture so we rang the pub and made sure the barman watched him have his full six before he left.

Let them off the hook here with some very loose bowling by Stokes and Moeen.

Weird why Anderson hasn't had a second spell this morning, can only assume he has an injury else it makes no sense.

It's the worst thing about cricket this isn't it ?

I had them for 3&4 when we bowled them out for fifty odd at Trent Bridge and whilst I'm cheering the wickets you are also saying goodbye to your chance of going, no other sport can that happen. Ended up secretly cheering on the Aussie openers in the second to try and get it into day 3.

Pattern of the series beginning here. New ball gets wickets then the middle order score a few to get competitive scores. Stokes is a weird bowler at times, can be unplayable on pitches that offer nothing yet can look terrible when pitch is swinging a bit.

Anderson can’t be fully fit, big risk playing him and trying to nurse him through the game.

Hope it's not our "McGrath moment"...

Guardian:

Jimmy Anderson update...

And it’s not good. From the England camp at lunch. “Jimmy Anderson has tightness to his right calf and will have a scan this afternoon. A further update will be given later today. He felt tightness at the end of his fourth over.”

Difficult to know whether that means he will be able to field in the middle session; he was out there before lunch. That certainly feels like he’s cooked for the day, doesn’t it?

Let me be the 100th person in the lunch room to say... Glenn McGrath, 2005, this very ground. Speaking of 2005, the Ashes-winning squad from that year are doing a lap of honour.

Sad for Anderson, could be the beginning of the end. Not many fast bowlers go on at 37. Apparently someone bumped his car this morning too, going to be even grumpier than usual this afternoon.

I was starting to feel bad for willing on a slight comeback prior to the 4th wicket when Smith and Head were looking comfortable.

Is it too much to ask for England to be on top, and eventually win, but not so on top that there's no game, or virtually no game, going in to day 4!?

Hope the umpiring decisions so far don't set the tone for the rest of the series. Mind you, that was a shocking review from Head having seen the replay.

Anyway, shouldn't complain. Let's get these out by tea.
