The poor bloke is going to have to start every prem game isn’t he? Even a weakened and old Vardy is still our best striker.

Hopefully we'll get a good backup in January... but Vardy still has a year (or two) in his system, I think.

the problem with that is Daka (who we can't shift similar to Soumare) will be back and Edouard has obviously been brought in on loan. I would love to invest in someone else but seems massively unlikely.

The moment of magic made up for a poor game from him. In an ideal world we wouldn't be using him for so long. He's gone from having 20 odd sub appearances in Championship to main man playing 90 minutes in Premier League again.

I don't think it's helping the team at times and I don't want to see him retire by default because of injury. Need to manage him better as season goes on.

that 1-2 is superb, not just for the timing etc... but, imagine you are in that guys head, you know that, youve scored more than most, that the club, team  and fans rely on you to score, that you are the GOAT... but still you choose the unselfish option and trust your teammates.

I'm obviously a sucker for punishment but I do genuinely believe that once Daka comes back he'll be more effective in this system than he was in Enzoball, where his lack of nouse really exposed his limitations in a possession setup. If Cooper can somehow tease a more clinical side out of him we're laughing, because these off the shoulder runs and one-twos as seen today for Ayew should play to his strengths. We've already seen Vardy score a 'classic' against Palace and he really should have bagged one against Bournemouth too. And that's having clearly lost a yard or two of pace, which in theory Patson still possesses if his injury wasn't too severe.

That Vardy was able to adapt his game to still perform under Enzoball (and, relegation season aside, under Rodgers too) is testament to his desire and ability. But he's 38 and it's frankly absurd we're looking at him remaining first choice all season with so much on the line. We need to rotate, and in this system I'd rather give Patson another go as a like-for-like with the two sharing 70/20 mins in alternate games than see much of Edouard, who I'm not sure is going to offer much at all besides maybe a hint more at set pieces.

Whatever happens, we can't afford to run the GOAT into the ground and risk a long layoff with injury, which could even be career-ending at this point.

Yes - they say great goal scorers are selfish. But he's a great goal scorer AND he sees the bigger picture. A level above Harry Kane - and anyone who fails to see that is a total and utter Southgate.

If he'd tried to shoot in that situation, everyone would have lost their minds. It wasn't unselfish, it was just a good decision; which is what the best do.

lol. Harry Kane, who's is slagged off for not being selfish enough? The guys got 5 assists in 9 matches. The lengths people go to slag him off is so weird. He's clearly a better all-round football than Vards. That's one of the reasons Vardy has never been snapped up by a big club, though no doubt he'd have scored buckets for anyone

Surely you’re not serious? The bloke would take throw ins and goal kicks if the manager let him.
Yes Kane is the better player but Vardy has had by far the better career and is amongst the discussion for top 10 premier era strikers

Did you just not have any interaction with the outside world during the summer? All the talk was about how he was too deep and needed to be more selfish and stay up top.

Assume the first point is about him taking corners in the 2016 world cup? Something that was an instruction from the manager?

Obviously Kane would swap his goals for Vardy's trophies but I think you're losing that battle. I personally would put them both in the top 10 all time but Kane is probably going to get in most people's top 3.

Hmmm. This is the Vardy is God thread. **** off and support Spurs (who've won nothing,) or Bayern Munich - (who've won lots, until Harry turned up). Is my mature and not at all drunk response to that lol

lol. Was going to say that I can't argue with that but then I realised you told me to go an support Spurs. Pretty sure you can get locked up for hate crimes like that

Should have been Kane and Vardy up front together in 2018 for England, Alli was already starting to dip so should have been the one to make way.

Sterling had a poor tournament but came into it off a great season so would have been harsh to drop Sterling.

When England are playing I have no faith in Harry Kane in big tournament matches despite him being England's all time top scorer. That's why I will never rate Kane as highly as most, he doesnt inspire confidence that he's going to get you over the line. I think there's a ridiculous stat that he has 0 shots on target in ths 6 finals he has played.

Vardy has less goals than Kane but what he has achieved is far greater and it feels like he has a bigger impact on the success of the team. I'm certain that if you gave Vardy the opportunities Kane has had (10 years at Spurs and England's Nr 1) he would have won trophies.
