He’s still alive ........

he’s still our player

shouldn't all this stuff happen when he actually leaves ???

and at a risk of being slaughtered, he hasn’t exactly gone unrewarded for staying here the last few seasons rather than moving on ..... he knows he won’t get game time but he chose to hang around. He likes it here - I suspect he will stay around and try to become a coach here.

hopefully he remains ‘part of the furniture ‘!

Just been shipped out on a furniture van to Glasgow Rangers, so I guess it's appropriate as he's kind of leaving.

Now, first of all, my apologies for starting a new thread as I am aware there are other threads about the First King of Filbert Way and feel free to merge if you think it’s appropriate. However, I wanted to find a way to say thank you to a true legend of our club and arguably the first legend to grace our new stadium.

As the user name suggests I won’t be there, but I was wondering if at the Bournemouth home game coming up, in the 62nd minute, we can stand and sing Andy Kings song to say thank you. I don’t think as a club we always recognise our heroes that have left and I for one think it would be a fitting way to start recognising those players who have contributed to our joy over the years.

For anyone who doubts his status as a legend:

379 games (10th in all time records)

62 goals (18th all time)

Leagues won:

League one

Championship

Premier League

Joined the club aged just 15

scored at least one goal for us in 10 consecutive seasons.

young player of the year 08/09

Players player of the year 09/10

Captained the club

Kept playing through a billion different managers

Gave his squad number to Madders when he realised it was for the benefit of the whole club

50 International caps

played in both the Football League Trophy and the Champions League - how many other players have done that?

And so many vital and great goals along the way. So please get behind this, or come up with a better idea to say thank you to an instrumental part of our squad for so long.

Long live the King

Andy King is a legend

Give him a send off with a testimonial at the end of the season - would be very fitting.

I would love it if one team wears our League One shirt first half & Championship winning shirt second half. The other team wear our Premier League winning shirt and Champions League shirt, just to show all the years he played through.

HERO IN BLUE AND WHITE.

I also have no doubt that when the Birch finally hangs up the mic - he will be the next in line.

I think this is great, however if he does go rangers in loan he won’t be around to see the chants.

i hope the club give him a testimonial. Not fir financial reasons, but as a way to say thank you and acknowledge his part in the clubs success.

is there anyone on this forum that has links to the club to ask? I’d 100% want to go!

I agree with the original post, he is a proper legend at the club. i think he had chances to leave when he was younger and the club wasn't in the position we are now, Villa came in for him i think??, but he chose to stay and his rewards are quite clear to see. manged a achievement that no one else has done in winning the top 3 leagues in England. you also suspect that its something that wont be repeated given the state on English football.

He always gives everything he has when he plays for us, and we were very fortunate to have some one of his talent when we couldn't sign even the shitest players kicking about.

With this being a season long loan and his contract expiring at the end of the season.  We won’t see him play for us again, if all goes well up there I would imagine he will sign for them on a free at the end of the season.

He hasn’t gone unrewarded for his efforts, but he has also given so much on that time too.

Also if anyone does think this is a good idea worth sharing - I don’t do social media Facebook, Twitter and all that Jazz, so if you think it’s worth sharing could you? I’ll even let you take the credit for the idea ;)

Bump this up ahead of the game, although I am aware of the request for a moments applause and an EFL campaign on the same day, it’s getting to be overkill.

This is more about a song we might sing rather than anything else.

so if the atmosphere is a bit flat around that time, please jump up and sing his name!

I can’t make it today but I would rather applaud the poor fella who spent his whole life following the club and has passed on way too early aged 55 ..........  his family will take far more from a minute’s applause for him in minute 55 than AK will for something in the 62nd minute he knows nowt about ........

Exactly. King has done well for Leicester, but we have made him a multi- millionaire,so he has been rewarded

Or his hard work, determination made him a footballer why we are all on here, discussing tinder, beer and not quite being good enough to be footballers.

The fact the game made him wealthy was probably a bonus.

Part of the reason he's stayed for so long is he felt valued and happy.

Anyway the club have said he will be given the option for a testimonial when he, retires or leaves permanently. I guess what he does will be up to him and what he does with the money. Well I'd guess he gives it to the owners foundation.

He’s done well for himself and become a respected player at the club, but I somehow don’t think all that warrants  giving him a knighthood, bit disrespectful imo.

Doesn't need it anyway, he's already a Monarch.

This whole minutes applause thing during games has gone over the top in my opinion.

A lot of the time a lot of the fans have no idea why there are other fans applauding and even for those that do it doesn’t really mean anything for them if it’s for a deceased fan that they didn’t know. They join in like sheep or because they think they should but I very much doubt that many think in any meaningful way about the reason for what they are doing.

As for Andy King, he’s one of my favourite players over the years. By all means arrange some sort of charity testimonial but as much as I like him I’ll not be do anything in the 62nd minute other than focussing my attention on the game.
