8 years ago today Cambiasso announced he wasn’t going to renew his contract

 

I wonder what would’ve happened to us in 15/16 if he had stayed

August 17th 1996 

 

Newly-promoted Leicester City start their Premier League campaign with a 0-0 draw at Sunderland. 

 

Of the 20 clubs in the League, we are the outsiders for the title, quoted at 500 -1.

 

Ha ha. Two decades later and you could add another zero. That's how rampant football inequality became. I guess you would find salaries of the top players, the record transfer fee and of course the value of the TV contract (driving the other two) went up by a similar factor over the same period.

Agree, great trip. Boiling hot day, Belgium beer, great old city and still not quite believing we were actually playing in the champions league. Then at the game hearing the champions league music and win 3 nil away… What a night!  One of the most unbelievable nights following the boys.

65 years ago today Louis Armstrong played the De Montfort Hall. 

 

In the paper the next day was this photo of a fan who came up on the stage to get his autograph. Our old friend Bernie:
