Detroit Blues Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Aguero probably has the best single moment, but Vardy has the best story from this decade. Couldn't go wrong with either one of them.

bmt Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Iconic has to be Vardy for me. Has to be him or Aguero.
pSinatra Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 James Milner - just so they could shoe-horn a Liverpool player in James fvcking Milner
majaco Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Ooh Jamie Vardy. Absolutely. Iconic player from the iconic episode of the decade. And Nathan Dyer wasn't on the list.

Muzzy_Larsson Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Bit of a daft thing from the BBC imo, iconic is so subjective and so applicable to the eye of the beholder. If I was a Leicester fan it would be Vardy, if I was a city fan it's Aguero, etc, etc.

But the last decade thing surely goes for Van Persie too? Gerrard's best days were clearly in the 00s and he tailed off after the season they finished 2nd (13/14?). RVP went up to 2015 (?) and helped Man Utd win the league in his first season after scoring several goals, some of the great. His impact, in this decade alone, was more than what Gerrard achieved.
HybridFox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 I want Vardy to get it but have a feeling it'll go to Kompany
peach0000 Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 David Silva or Rooney I would say personally.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Hard to tell with a year yet to go. (I'm gonna keep banging on about this...)
Unabomber Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 It’s Vardy surely this isn’t even an argument? He was playing non league football recently and he then broke the premier league all time consecutive goal scoring record. Erm hello best premier league of the decade here.

Manwell Pablo Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Had to vote Vardy but could understand Aguerro getting it.

Aus Fox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 As others have said Iconic is such a loose term to use. It comes back to your own experiences as fan. What it means to me is in 50 years time when people Look back on this period of football what will their memories be, what images will come Into their head. For me Wes Morgan lifting the trophy or Jamie Vardy standing in front of opposition supporters with his arms out, fingers to his lips or shouting its mine! Other icons of the last 10 years should include: Aguero - that moment will be spoken about forever. Ballotelli - you can’t think of the last 10 years without the image of ‘why always me’ Suarez - From the sublime to the ridiculous at times Rooney just always there with story and great goals. Players like Hazard, Kane, Milner and De Gea, whilst very good footballers are not iconic. If you’re talking best players in PL they are worthy of mention - but 20 years time you won’t even remember what they looked like. They haven’t been involved in the big moments that have defined the game over the last 10 years.
RumbleFox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 I think it's Aguero but voted Vardy because I'm a cvnt. X

While Rooney is iconic for different reasons. Obviously a great player towards the begging game of the decade but iconic for being Wayne Rooney as much as anything.
Carl the Llama Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 For most fans it's going to be Agueroooooo for that moment and for being consistently one of the best players in the league for basically the entire decade which is fair enough. For me it's Jamie all day long.
Carl the Llama Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Interestingly though, here's the top comment from the BBC poll: Quote He may not be the best player on the list but in terms of 'iconic' players, it has to be Jamie Vardy. Coming from non-league football and achieving what he has with Leicester, and staying loyal after winning the league, he represents everything good that the game still clings on to.
Stadt Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Aguero is a brilliant player but he’s hardly an icon. He’s a boring family man, we sing about Vardy smashing gear, he made splints in a factory, wore a tag in non-league after twatting someone, became the first million pound non league player, turned up to training pissed, nearly gave up, had the worst haircut I’ve ever seen, turned it around completely, won a penalty every week, got us promoted, rattled Man United’s whole fanbase with the second worst haircut I’ve ever seen, was out of his depth, then he wasn’t, got an England call up, broke the consecutive goal scoring record, turned down Wenger, told a Chinese man to “walk on, Jap” in a casino, drinks loads of red bull, takes snus, drinks port, drinks skittle vodka, scored that back heel versus Germany, is the best shithouse in world football and scores some outrageous goals. Jamie Vardy’s cast was more iconic than Aguero
