Racism

There is absolutely no doubt that racism has increased since the brexit referendum. Giving pricks the courage to come out of their nasty shell and think its now "acceptable".  Hate to admit it but Gary Neville is right, if it's OK for the PM to do it then morons will think it's OK for them to do it.

What utter rubbish, when I was younger a couple of times late at night walking home I had abuse shouted at me by passing cars full of Asian cretins like Whitey and honky **** and was spat at by a group of black lads whilst cycling to work, racist cretins come in all colours and you making excuses for it is laughable.

When I was a kid back in the 70s there was a big riot on Catherine street between the NF, police and a large group of Asian peeps that was a scary sight and half an hour later at least four Asian men tried to break into the house when my mum foolishly opened the door to them and my dad was at work, still remember it to this day.

Fact of the matter is, anyone can be a racist cnut, does not matter the colour of your skin.

Literally had nothing to do with my point but obvs no one should he attacked for their race, “white boy” is a nothing term tho compared to the historical meaning behind “n word” and paki. Racist people these days are way more sneaky with the racism, a lot more online and anonymous, but very severe racist comments rather than face to face cos in Leicester it would not go well for them

I’m 20 and I can say that I have 100% seen a massive rise in racism in the last few years, can’t comment on decades ago but my family experienced plenty from national front dickheads

I’m sorry if this sounds condescending, but you are 20. You cannot say you’ve seen a massive rise in racism, basically you’re beginning to grow up and see the world around you. As a kid you simply don’t see things, they go over your head. You’ve now hit 20 and your eyes are open and the world isn’t a perfect place.

I cannot comment on England it’s been 15 years now since I packed up and left for warmer shores.

What I can tell you is that there isn’t a place on earth that I have traveled to that isn’t affected by racism.

The biggest problem we have now is social media where people all over the planet can share any view they have.

Within this we certainly have large portions of racist people.

What we also have though is the outrage police, sharing posts, peoples names, photos etc and telling the world they are racist, sexist, etc without ever looking deeply and in the context a person has spoken.

There are many things that were said when I was a kid, that were normal for the time, but would now be considered racist. People have rightly changed, people are way more aware than they were before. I simply can not believe that thins are getting worse than the days when I grew up.

The other big thing changing is people now know these things are wrong and are reporting them and also the police are taking them seriously, which never happened previously. Hence the statistics show hate crime is rising.

All views have to be accepted and debated.

It's important that people are talking about it, it's the first step.

Racism in football can only be tackled by the 99.9999999999% whom are not racists.

I hope my assumed calculation here is correct.

If you are not racist, then make your opinion against racism known and most of all, if you can, do something about it.

Whilst a public humiliation of the convicted racists would be my first course of action, awareness, for me, is the only solution.

Perhaps a re-integration of white people into the world could help too.

How anyone can try to justify any form of racist  behaviour in beyond me, along with how anyone cannot see the rise in racism over the last few years.

I cannot get how anyone can make a judgement on a fellow human based on the colour of their skin. If I don't like someone it's because they're a c**t not because they have a different colour skin to me.

Take the pee out of someone because of their haircut not because they have different coloured skin.

Anyone who is racist is an idiot and has no place in the modern world. In the age of information the world is smaller than it ever has been, how is racism still a thing!!?

It certainly has no place in sport but even on here there are those trying to justify it.

I grew up, on a council estate surrounded by kids all my age all from different backgrounds. Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Kenyan, Caribbean, Kosovan and not one of us treated any other differently. I've heard racial slurs thrown at my friends, when we were children, coming from grown adults and it saddened me. How in this day and age is it still happening? I'd hope that the vast majority would report any incident that they witness.

These facts are very subjective. You have to look at where the sources came from. The tiny minority of actual racists came out their shell yes, but the media very much used Brexit as a scapegoat for these issues that definately already existed.

The media is rife with propaganda and wants to sell stories and it works at both ends of the political spectrum.

I don't think anyone has tried to justify it all at. Racism is wrong. But it's just not as black and white as some on here are making out. No pun intended. And defining what's racist and what's not, as well as the media, is as much of a cause as the actual racists cnuts themselves.

It's no coincidence in times of hardship economically that things like racism, crime, poverty increase.

People who may be suffering, losing their jobs, requiring to work harder for less money, need a scapegoat which unfortunately could mean blaming someone of a different race or from a different country. No one wants to point the finger at themselves or try to improve their own situation.

Having said that, I think as a society we have suppressed a lot of racism. But that means it probably still exists but people are not so vocal and direct with their views. Football seems to be a platform where people feel they can say anything and get away with it.

I’m not saying there’s not a problem as clearly there is, however I believe it’s always existed and now it’s being called out. This is in some ways progress from the ignorance that Gary Neville spoke about on Sunday

What tosh!! Forget austerity and so-called poverty that has absolutely nothing at all to do with this cancer. People chant or make unsavoury noises because they are ignorant and ill-educated. With a stadium full of cameras, safety personnel and attendants I fail to see why they can't identify and drag these bastards out.

This barely warrants a response, but clearly you’ve extrapolated way beyond what he has said. Like it or not, some of the consequence of the conversation around Brexit has been an increase in anti-immigrant sentiment, which has legitimised some racist views - eg people like Tommy Robinson have a relevant political backdrop to rally around.

Nobody is saying that if you voted Brexit you’re a racist, so to try and reach for that is just mindlessly dismissive of the point that’s being made. But like it or not, the statistics do show that there has been a rise of hate crimes in the country recently, and what we are seeing in football right now echoes that. It’s hardly a stretch to attribute some of that to the political backdrop in this country.

For what it’s worth, I echo to OPs sentiments - don’t want this at Leicester, and if you hear any of it from our own fans please report it.

It's clear who the racists are on this forum.

It's also telling that when people of colour convey their negative experiences on here some are quick to point out that it wasn't that bad.

I'm guessing that those saying it wasn't so bad are white and have little sympathy for ethnics.

To be fair to the poster I think he was talking in a broader context than just in a football stadium. If the problem exists in society, for whatever reason, then it won't easily be diminished in a football stadium. I honestly think the more attention it's getting then the worse the problem seems. Totally agree the individuals should be removed and punished accordingly.

Are you going to point those individuals out? Quite the accusation there and seems a little inappropriate for the debate. Everyone has different perspectives and backgrounds. I don't think it's necessary to bring the hostility on here as well.

Whilst partly this is true (about the media propaganda) there is no doubt racism has increased. You just have to speak to people in the minority who have experienced it first hand. The point is that ofcourse racism existed pre brexit, however post brexit the people who had racist views and never spoke about it now feel it is ok to share their views and be outwardly racist. This is the point where minorities feel racism, and I'm not entirely sure about your "tiny minority" statement either......

You’re right I can only comment on what I’ve seen but I have seen and experienced a massive rise. One thing I can guarantee is everyone who is reacting to my posts and replying fits in to the category of white and Middle Aged, not being funny but how would you know what it’s like to experience England as a “coloured”? Nationalists around the west are winning elections because divisive politicians and media can profit off blaming the issues the white majority face on immigrants, when the real issue has always been class

When the country goes to shit the right wing politicians (subtly) blame the poor, the immigrants and the non-whites.

This encourages racist behaviour and plants seeds that may not have been there before, namely whats been done over the past 5 years in the US and UK. The correlation in sport and society as a whole over that period is frightening.

By the way, not saying racism didnt exist pre-brexit vote or people who voted brexit are racists.

Yeah I don't disagree with you there. Maybe the word tiny wasn't necessary but i do think it's the minority otherwise we're all doomed

I think you better double check what you can guarantee and not make too many assumptions.
