Buzzing to see some evidence for this. Won't hold my breath...

He really doesn’t help himself now if he’d said that when people have been out drinking into the night (after 10pm) they are less likely to follow the rules then that would of been fine.

Sadly many other people will have died today, yes. But probably not from a very highly transmittable disease which could easily have been avoided had everyone taken steps to avoid passing it on. People will always die, every day. But that doesn't mean we should just accept another cause of death and just add it to the list of causes, not when it so easily increases it's numbers every day if it is left unchecked.

But the point is we we've never been close to closing the whole country down for any other infectious disease. We need to get this into perspective.

Anyone wondering why the virus continues to spread, its probably not too much down to people popping round a mates, or down the pub etc, its most likely summed up by what I've just seen on Facebook.

Someone on spotted loughborough asked this:

"Anyone else finding it difficult to get a test through the post? Neither me or my partner drive so it’s the only possible way to be tested. And there’s no tests."

To receive this response:

"Public transport? Taxi ? Mates.."

Jesus! I'm all for people trying to go about their normal lives as much as possible, but if you have symptoms, you shouldn't be getting a taxi, or a bus or a lift with a mate. What so hard to understand. No wonder its spreading if people think these activities are fine when youre showing signs of it.

The 10pm curfew has been used across Europe isn't it? Yet people speak as though Boris has come up with idea himself.

Has it been successful in those countries? Interesting if it's worked in Spain especially as they usually socialise much later in to the night than we do each day...

Well, no, that wasn't the point that I responded to, the point made was that other people had died from things other than Covid who 'weren't being mentioned' .

In response however to your point, in my lifetime we have never faced a disease like this, one that threatens to overwhelm the NHS to the point of collapse, so that is probably why the measures being taken are unprecedented, no?

For all those that get the hump & take a comment made by a member of government personally, well don't, if you have followed the guidelines to the letter & are cleaner than clean they are not talking about you, they are talking about d1cks like this

Certainly be interesting to know. British booze culture obviously a bit different and I would guess the Spanish follow the rules better (or the rules are enforced better)

Calls for him to ditch Vallance and Whitty today and go with a more informed scientific opinion.  The tide is shifting.

Honestly this is pointless. Whichever scientist stands up there and gives their opinion will be slated for either supporting the government or giving an answer people don't want to hear. Too many Facebook warriors have become biologists overnight. For sure they've made mistakes, but this pandemic is as new to them as it is us.

People in Birmingham encouraged to get tests even if asymptomatic.

Good job they weren't blaming the public taking redundant tests a few days back...

Funny thing is a big testing centre is at the univeristy. Can't wait for students to be fully back and unintentionally mixing with those getting tests.

Shambles.

Like you say, it's new to everyone

But even with the concession of that in mind it's been a lumbering ham fisted attempt at actually guiding through this.

All the talk about pubs reminds me off when there was no all day drinking.Yet now it’s the tea time crowd that keep the pubs going.Twenty five years ago there was no tea time crowd as they would’ve been shut.Funny how habits change.

People realised that you could be battered by eight and in bed for a good night's kip.

Yes,that’s a big reason.I only got the back end of  the strict opening times.I must admit that I thought opening all day was a great idea.Looking back,i think it did the locals more harm than good.

No, it's not threatening the NHS and never did, there was and certainly is now plenty of capacity.

No it did threaten the NHS. It stopped most other important operations from happening. Even if capacity wasn't overwhelmed, it certainly caused plenty of issues.
