Fair slight misunderstanding - take your point that the council has failed to take the lead on communications in communities. As opposed to letting the government control, take some ownership in doing that rather than blame. Fair criticism.

I do think Soulsby can take stick for simply not being proactive in the immediate of Monday. His interviews were a touch too overcritical - fair too much of us versus them vibe. He should have better language which eventually he did come the evening.

and that's it. However, for me as well it's easy to criticise Sir Peter but just like any organisation its the feedback he is getting from his lieutenants that will sway his decision making.

The above link is a timeline of what has happened in Leicester. On the 9th June is when Leicester's director of public health recognised internally that there was a problem (apparently the 8th is when Govt made the council aware that they believed there may be an issue in Leicester). That is 3 weeks before the lockdown decision was made. This is when the council senior team should've sat down, had a meeting and implemented local initiatives to combat the rising positive test results. I think the councils immediate response to do this will be that because of lack data coming down from Whitehall, they didn't know where to implement the initiatives. I would counteract immediately by saying you've locked down the entire city therefore, your initiatives pre-hand should've targeted the whole city regardless of where the positive test results were.

I feel disappointed today. Because I think we have been let down on all fronts and we are continued to be let down. Leicester remains in lockdown while the rest of the country gears up for a bit of respite after months. We should be doing the same.

Merthyr Tydfil has a population lower than 45,000. They’ve got an outbreak that is higher numbers than Leicester, yet they haven’t closed the meat factory that the outbreak came from and they haven’t lockdown the surrounding areas. Seems the Welsh don’t want to be tarred with the same “dirty” brush that we’ve been smacked with.

Crikey ! ..  so much blame flying around here !!  ...   government ...  Soulsby ...  the Police ! (Particularly like that one from Soulsby) ...  not enough housing ?!?! ...   information not given in an assortment of languages ...      and then lashings of moaning about boundaries and ‘we are being picked on’ self pity.

Can we all just remember that the main problem was the selfish cvnts who totally ignored the lockdown rules and thought Fvck you !  to everyone else, including the NHS and the elderly, and just some maybe who are unfortunately not with us anymore.

If this doesn’t give those in authority, nationally and locally (including those prize dickheads Soulsby and Cummings), a kick up the backside to tackle some entrenched problems in this city ...   such as illegal factories, slave labour, illegal immigration, overcrowded housing and people trafficking ...  and help to increase diversification and integration issues  ....    then nothing will.

This might have been touched upon within the chat on this thread, but I'm finding an ever bigger sense of "them v us" at the moment.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm just, just in the lockdown zone, but I've seen a few things from people about "oh don't let the people from the city in" and it doesn't sit well with me.

The pubs are opening tomorrow and lots are putting in ID/Address systems in place. Don't get me wrong, I totally get why they're doing it, and maybe it's just the way it's phrased. I saw one pub would be doing this for anyone "they didn't recognise" further showing the alienation of different people, just makes me uneasy.

We're supposed to be a cohesive society and community and yet we've been split along this boundary that, especially around the borders, gives off this "them v us" vibe that I don't really like, but I know is unavoidable and for the best.

Divide and rule tactic. First rule of the tories.

The reason I heard was because PPE could scare the younger kids...

National PPE guidance within schools was actually lessened even further the other week, saying PPE isn't needed when dealing with close contact first aid issues (it was a guideline when children first came back).

Which is fine. But these very same timid children are being required, by governmental diktat, to wear PPE on the way into schools.

Do you see the contradiction. You MUST wear them outside the school but inside it's too scary for you.

No. It was this government that introduced lockdown too late.

Greece has less than 200.victims.They began lockdown late February. Johnson at this time was still on holiday I believe.

What is wrong with Greece? It's actually 192 deaths. UK 44000 deaths official. 65000 plus according to the FT.

There is nowt wrong with Greece, I love Greece, been more times than I could count. However, its transmission rate likelihood compared to UK cities with perhaps the sole exception of Athens is very low. Its not especially densely populated, it does not possess a big economy, its not really a good comparison.

Oh I getcha ! ...   it was the governments fault there was a second spike and a lockdown in Leicester ...   does Boris have a few knitting machines in the Downing Street cellar and the crafty git is using cheap labour from Leicester to knock out a few t shirts ..   :yesyes:

Walking the dog at Abbey Park last night there were quite a few groups of BAME/Eastern European men, women, children gathering and not social distancing. Large group of men playing football (and have done so consistently) many of whom are taxi drivers (cabs are all parked in car park) again not distanced. Saw one guy who regularly runs at the park who was getting threatened by one of the group, assume he had challenged them on the gathering. Also as we crossed the bridge an elderly man and woman were being confronted by another bloke who threatened to kill him as we walked by (briefly stopped to make sure nothing kicked off). The lady (crying by this point) told me the guy was accusing them of taking photos of the group (footballers).

So it comes as no surprise that certain communities are being hit harder given they continue to ignore the lockdown.  God knows what increases risk these taxi drivers are causing.

Good old Soulsby sitting in the centre of the blame Venn diagram - covers both bases, useless leader and lockdown breaker! Still, least he managed to get out and blame everyone else for the problems - funnily enough, when we had the problems with social care in Leicester a few years back, he magically knew nothing about that either, and fired an assistant mayor - implying Vi Dempster knew everything was fooked up, but somehow hid it all from him. Quite remarkable how he has complete authority over the council, no political opposition to stop any of his schemes, and yet its always someone else to blame when it goes wrong. Total power, zero responsibility. Nice gig if you can get it.

Indian funeral on my street today, there were probably about 100-150 people! They even had someone directing the cars where to parklol Most of them were wearing masks to be fair, but they weren't social distancing and they were all going into the same house.

Wonder if the dear departed was a victim of covid. Ironic if they were.

Seen it with my own eyes in the same area just after the first lockdown.

Apologists came back at me with, 'White youths are out and about too'. No where near in the numbers I've seen though.

This 2nd lockdown, and the area responsible, is case proven I think.

Yes they always hit back with that comment. Yet the problem areas are not the ones with gangs of white youths about. Eyres Monsell, Saffron Lane , Aylestone etc have not cause this second lockdown.
