Yep…. With all the drama of making a simple task so bloomin’ difficult it’s easy to miss what we finally achieved yesterday

An all but guaranteed place in Europe is an absolutely astonishing achievement in its own right

We have fantastic owners to thank for that….  Vichai has the dream and Top is doing his Dad more than proud…

It is a fantastic achievement to break into the top 6 given the odds are stacked against any club daring to try it.

However, I think that we'll need to do it for the next 10 years before the media accept LCFC as little more than a yo-yo club from a lost city that can be safely ignored.

This is some great perspective. When I heard Brendan mention the second-second-highest finish in the club's history last night I was initially pretty cynical given the form.

It's easy to want it all, right now but we would do well to reflect and look beyond this weekend or next, towards consecutive seasons of high places and an undeniable, un-'shaftable' redefining of the Top 6.

At the start of season I would have snatched 5th but as the season progressed we were looking a cert for top 4. For me I knew we couldnt keep up that first half of season form but expected a decent return on points to safely get us in top 4 so seeing what happened to us result wise I was very worried. I’m glad we’ve pretty much nailed on 5th now, (think we’d have to lose both games 5-0 and wolves win both games 5-0 haha) and in the end we’ve done it struggling losing players with injuries throughout season.

It’s clear we need to invest but I’m still excited about our future... as I’ve said before this downturn in form might actually benefit us in terms of realising we need to invest in more quality.

still lots to play for and hopefully the players can keep up that level of performance in the last 2 games.

I'm certainly guilty sometimes of getting wrapped up in the hype. It'll be absurd to be disappointed finishing 5th this season. Over the course of the season that'll be a huge achievement and another scalp for the project Vichai set out for us. We do however need to learn to capitalise better when we put ourselves in such an unbelievable position

If we do secure top 4 we really need to push on and try to stay there, I said the title win was our one chance to take this club to the next level but we blew it, now we may have a second bite, let's make sure we do it this time.

Yep what a truly incredible man! I remember when he said that thinking to myself "what a delusional owner" and now... well there is a reason we sing his name during every match!

Even better is that we are making the right investments off the pitch too. Several clubs in history have gotten lucky with a "golden generation" that all came through at the same time, but we are proving right now we can create multiple successful teams. Things like the academy and stadium improvements... well yesterday we had Hamza Choudhury, Harvey Barnes and Luke Thomas all play for the first team. The dream really is coming true!

We have great owners who have backed what they say up.

We have a great chance of staying in and around there as Arsenal are a mess, Spurs cannot spend due to self imposed wage cap, and the massive debt of the ground, Man U are rebuilding as well as Chelsea, it’s all down to getting the recruitment right this time, and try and keep up with the big boys rebuilding.

We are the only side probably since Everton in 04/05 to break into the top four and we could potentially do it twice in five years. I think expectations have gotten so high that we forget how far we have come in so little time. What Khun Vichai and Top have done for our club has been remarkable and it has transformed us into one of the best teams in the country.

I remember reading that article when we got promoted from the championship thinking if we even do half of that, that would be something but not only have we done that, we've gone on to win the title.

I love the emphasis on our European record just as a reminder to know our place....

Well, yeah, we can't just do it once.

However it's not just about finishing top 6, it's about winning trophies too. We've got to win an FA Cup/League Cup and go far as we can in either European Competition consistently too. Winning the league again is probably out the question so silverware comes in those forms.

After we secured Top 5 yesterday, I think it’s fitting to remember this quote from Khun Vichai:

“I am asking for three years, and we'll be there.

We won't take the huge leap to challenge the league's top five clubs immediately.

Do we have a chance to beat them? Yes, we have, but I think we need to establish our foothold in the league first and then we think about our next step.”

We forget (well, I do) sometimes that the Thai ownership has transformed this club. Today we sit 5th in the best league in the world and it’s the second time we have broken the stranglehold of the “bigger” clubs. Keep building, god knows where it will take us next.

Vichai truly had a dream....

We might wind up 5th but today we sit 4th! :P

Hope Vichai is proud-- what an achievement, what a club. :)

And we truly have a very shit generic chant in recognition of and in honour of his vision. Great shame.

Spurs have done it quite consistently over the last 10 years. Even to the extent it became “The top 6”

Inevitable. The standard indignant obligatory reply. Well were iI to do so, it certainly wouldn't be purloined from a Wolverhampton Wanderers chant, and the tune of 'Sloop John B' a generic terrace song which remember has been adapted to everything from '...you'll never sing that' to Jason Puncheon going for a shit. If you think that's a good way to honour the devotion and deeds of our deceased chairman and possibly the most significant individual in the history of this club, then please allow me to disagree. I think he deserves something unique and original - that's all.

We've got one of the best right backs in the world, one of the best DMs around, England's first choice left back, some excellent young English midfielders and the club's biggest legend spearheading our attack.

It's easy to be downbeat at times after performances such as Bournemouth but I think we all need to pinch ourselves sometimes.

The weight of having such a great man as his father could weigh heavily around the young man but he has been exemplary since the tragedy.

He really is an absolute class act like his father.

If we did finish 5th then (barring the title win) that would be our highest placing in the top flight since 1928. Not bad.

1927/28 3rd

1928/29 2nd

1962/63 4th

2015/16 1st

2019/20 *3rd/4th/5th tbc

Would equal 1962/63 which was another great era.

I don't disagree that he deserved something unique,  and it's an overused chant but at least it has it's personal lyrics. It's sounded pretty special at times too when everybody got involved.

Well 'personal' to an extent. Most of it is lifted from 'Nuno's dream'. He warranted something more.

I actually hope we've done more than just "crack the top 6 once in a while". I hope we've absolutely shaken it up and shown the other clubs it can be done. Let's say next year we finish 6th and Wolves finish 5th. That means two of (most likely) Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal and Spurs have missed it again.

I want to see teams go to Old Trafford, Anfield and Man City not afraid to get stuck in and say "you're good but you're still just 11 men".
