If England mess up (as I expect them to), I'll be cheering him on for Belgium in the Euros!

Regardless of England's performance, Belgium will have 3 of our players in their squad - I'll be supporting them 1st.

And Nigeria 2nd .... oh wait!

A lot of talk about what is being perceived as a tearful farewell. Is it possible (and I’m just throwing this out there) that the bloke, despite his cup heroics actually just cares quite a bit and got a bit emotional at the thought of feeling like maybe the team let the fans down?

I’m not saying they did - he most certainly hasn’t - but in front of a crowd at the KP, pretty big game against some faux rival and to be on the end of the result when Chelsea dropped points might actually be a bit overwhelming.

For the record, I’m not convinced he’ll be here next season. He deserves to be at the top and I believe he’s destined for Madrid or Barca, but as long as he doesn’t move to a domestic rival, I wish him well. I want nothing more than for him to stay, though.

He's had a bad experience at Monaco and he may feel a move to another big club may be a gamble.

At Leicester he shines, gets into the national team and most importantly enjoys his football.

The grass isn't always greener, Youri.

This is a good point. He's been amazing for us this season, but if we are honest he has gone AWOL in a few matches. The positive for us is he's still developing at Leicester and he has confidence that he will get the game time here to build on those things. As stated above, the gamble is that he goes elsewhere, doesn't settle in, and doesn't get the game time he needs to keep improving.

think us and youri need to come to a sensible solution

two year extension which means he could be sold next season or the one after for a good chunk of money; he should not run down his contract and value now

hopefully the above happens

If the club get a huge offer it will only be from a truly elite club and he will probably want to go.

I've no problem with this, I'm happy if our reputation as a club is one that buys top class young talent and nurtures it for a couple of years before sending them on their way with our blessing for a huge profit. Happy to be the "English Dortmund" that a top class younger player feels he can come here for two or three years to develop and the club won't stand in his way if an acceptable offer comes in from a truly elite club.

If you have faith in your scouting team then getting more involved in the transfer market is a good thing when you have a higher turnover of players and you buy low sell high.

It was slightly depressing reading this thread until this post. If he goes, we'll all be gutted, but what you've said is absolutely correct.

A pundit made this point not long ago. This is a very attractive club for good young players, because we do sell 1 every year if they perform. It isn't a bad thing.

If Youri goes, we already look like we have a centre mid incoming. He will not be the last player who we didn't want to sell, would've thought we had all got used to this by now.

Christ. He really isn't going anywhere. He was crying because he was sad. The end.

Perhaps he's getting married soon?

Thing is Rodgers wants a team that can enter the champions league and more than holds it own in that company and this policy is unlikely to get you that even if it makes good business sense.

Not really. If we can ship out a Chilwell and bring in a Fofana and Castagne every season, we improve. We have made money this way but reinvested it - Maguire out, new training ground in! That’s growth and development.

I agree they have been a couple of great deals. I think we all knew that we could replace them successfully . Youri or Wilf might not be so easy. I hope Rodgers makes clear his policy for next season asap. then our speculations might be more accurate.

The difference in what we earn in the CL and EL is not £45m unless we get through to the knockout stages.

We'll earn around £20m for the Europa League and another year in Europe has seen us move up a tier in shirt sponsorship with Adidas which will be worth another £5-10m and there's the obvious new commercial deal with FBS that is significant.

CL qualification on top of all this would have been amazing but we often view CL finances from a position where without it we only get the bare minimum which just isn't true. We are chipping away quite nicely.

What's with the shirt sponsorship thing and the "tiers".

Can't complain. Sounds good 👍

Yeah, I think we're progressing in terms of getting more revenue in so Champions League qualification isn't seismic. 5th place brings a healthy merit payment, we're getting high earners off the wage bill, it shouldn't be doom and gloom.

I don’t think he’ll leave. He seems to genuinely like it here and is invested in the project.

But he seems that nice a guy I sort of wouldn’t begrudge him if he moved on. And I think the Covid situation works in our favour anyway.

There are some right weirdos on this forum.  Talk about 2 + 2 = 17.  He may want to go, he may not but he was quite clearly cut up about not making the Champions League which surely shows he cares

Perhaps he'll stay because we won the FA Cup though?😎

Before he came here he made it quite clear that it was to settle down with his partner and child (now 2 whilst he's been here).

The bloke cares. He doesn't use social media a lot because he's probably enjoying family time after work!

And quite frankly with the personality that he seems to have then why at the moment would he go anywhere else, particularly with a busy summer in the euros which I doubt he'd want to be shifting his family around and moving clubs etc.

I listened to a maguire interview where he said the club asked him to do one more year and they'd let him go.

We heard the same with Mahrez, I'd imagine similar with chilwell too.

I doubt we've made that call with youri too.

There is a difference between selling highly overated footballers for inflated prices (Maguire & Chilwell) and being savvy enough to replace them. Mahrez, for example has not been replaced. Tielemans is in that class. I dont think he will leave anyway.

Exactly this. Selling overrated players that are easily replaceable is good business.

Some players are irreplaceable, Mahrez being one, Youri being another.

Its impossible to replace Youri because he’s one of the worlds greatest in his position and at a great age only going to get better.

Im sure top will do everything to keep him, his cuddle in the final with Youri that nearly brought him to tears was very telling how much they both mean to each other.

I don’t think It’s ever been more crucial to keep 1 individual that this time.
