I don't see a team having the £80 million + it would probably take to get him, he would fit perfectly into Liverpool's midfield but I don't think they spend that kind of money.

Can't really deny the guy deserves Champions League football, but i'd be absolutely gutted to see him go.

Youri's problem is he doesn't have the pace to avoid a close press. His idol Zidane and Pirlo had the physical strength to hold off challenges . Youri needs to lay the ball off quickly to be able to move into clear space to make those killer passes. Xavi was always given that space by Barca's superb midfield same with Scholes. He needs a partner in midfield to enable him to do that maybe Soumaré is the guy . If he sticks around maybe we can look forward to seeing that in action.

I’m not confident he will stay but I also don’t think it’s a dead cert he will go.

Personally I feel the not qualifying for the Champions League 2 years running is a big thing for him which is why he was so emotional yesterday. The failure of not getting Top 4 again maybe means he wants a bit of time for self reflection. If he signs a new deal it will be more difficult to move away in the future and he could just be assessing his options now after missing out again.

Covid might be one thing in our favour here.

Clubs around us don't really need him outside of maybe Liverpool and the elite European sides are almost flat broke bar 1 or 2 exceptions.

The likes of Barca and Real will have to wait until they balance the books over the next year or 2. If his contract does run down then they could be waiting until then to make him an offer.

He appears to thrive on having space and using it -  a couple of goals taken on the run are illustrations of that. He does get caught out in possession but usually manages to find room for an 'emergency' pass. I agree that he and N'Didi need another player whose attributes will complement theirs. Several times recently it's been clear that they needed an extra man - especially in the return match against Chelsea when they were being bypassed almost at will.

As has been stated, a figure of £80m would be prohibitive in the current financial climate - which would mean he stayed for another season. He stays and others will be less keen to move. This summer will be pivotal for City's short-term (in the short term) progress. It's not essentially about bringing in a bunch of new players as getting players back to fitness and having more capable subs.

As for the guys you mentioned - I admired them all (bar Scholes - a little too dirty for my liking). Indeed Zidane gets into my all-time top five. Yet they never chose to play in the Premier. Can't blame them.

I think that's right and in his circumstances, entirely the right stance to take. There isn't however upon reflection, a need to leave immediately. Of the teams that would want him, be able to afford him at this time, how many would offer him regular weekly football? Youri is in the driving seat. Perhaps an extension with more money for his family and certain clauses may be an option. Whilst we don't like them, from our point of view, another season from him with a clause that releases him if we don't gain Champions League football to a Champions League club would be reasonable and palatable if, in return, he agrees to stay at least another season should we actually attain Champions League football. I can see advantages for both parties there. In the meantime, if we can buy wisely this summer, who knows what heights we could attain?

Notably one of the only players who hasn’t posted a ‘we messed up but we go again’ message on social media. Maybe that really hurt him yesterday.

Tielemans is a cool, level headed chap. He plays football seemingly without a lot of pressure on his shoulders and does it superbly

He’ll know he’s a CL player. I think yesterday would have hurt him and I think he’ll really reflect on where he goes from here

I genuinely think Youri has been the difference between 5th and scrapping for 8th/9th place. He's an unbelievable talent and between him and Kel, they've managed to take a team that harboured no real attacking intent for 3 months and pick up enough points to stick around the top 4. As well as helping us on the cup run. Without those 2 we could easily have finished below Leeds and flopped out of the FA Cup against Brighton in the 5th round.

He should be comfortably our highest paid player and club captain.

I think he'd go for less unless he signs a new contract, I'd say £65m this season and what we paid for him next season as we'd have to recoup our fee.

If a CL team comes in and offers that and he wants to go I think we'll negotiate but settle around that figure unfortunately

No one else broke away from the group and did a solo lap of honour on either day

at Wembley, YT did two!   At first I made a joke of it to my son saying that youri is doing an Esteban (with his post goal bow v qpr) .........when he did the second lap I really took note.

to see him to similar today (yes i know kasper was also solo applauding the fans at that point) has definitely raised my concerns. To hear Brendan say that he can reassure the fans that ‘for himself’ he isn’t leaving raises more concerns that we will lose a player we don’t want to.

Didn't seem like a 'goodbye' wave to me at the time but then I was in absolute awe of the bloke.

I did note a few of the players run to sections on their own, it just wasn't always very long before others piled in on the glory.

He's had a bad experience at Monaco and he may feel a move to another big club may be a gamble.

At Leicester he shines, gets into the national team and most importantly enjoys his football.

The grass isn't always greener, Youri.

It's not a question of if, it's when... But I don't see him leaving this summer. Seems to be a bit of a panic over nothing.

He'll have ambitions to play in the Champions League but everyone can see the trajectory we're on. He seems like a level-headed bloke.

Although we need to add to the squad, stat. The existing team need to know we're serious about progressing and building the side around our best players.

Bloody hell, the absolute state of this thread. 45m?? 70m??

- There is nothing to suggest he wants to go. Waving to fans at the end of a season with no fans is pretty normal.

- He clearly actually loves it here

- 2 years is plenty: the situation for buyers will be exactly the same next year, where Utd need to replace Pogba, Madrid need to replace Modric, Liverpool need to replace Henderson.

- Top, Rudkin and Susan have shown how they do business, which means 100m minimum, which the ESL (bar Man C) can’t afford

- It’s literally 2 hours into the off season: maybe give the club a chance to do its business

The inferiority complex of our fan base is really beginning to p*ss me off.

Tielemans comes across as very intelligent and mature. He's already had a lot of games behind him, but also off the pitch he's got a young family. He isn't someone who sits on social media, or comes across as sitting on fifa and having parties, like others his age. I suspect he'll balance what is right for his family with his personal ambitions.

How on earth is it ‘inferior’ to suggest Tielemans would probably want to play for Barcelona or Bayern??

Look at the big names we’ve sold over recent years:

Mahrez... league winner and CL finalist

Maguire... CL and Europa final

Kante... say nothing more

Brylcreem boy... CL finalist and CL next season

All of these players have left to improve their lot, and they have done

It’s football

Yeah maybe he'll go at some point. But only at a price and time that works for us.

It's more the 'at least we tried' crowd that are annoying me to be honest. Might as well tell me 'it's only a game'.

The situation for buyers next year would be that we would have to except a significantly below market value fee or risk losing him for free the following summer, like the position we suspect Tarkowski might be in now. From the club’s perspective it makes sense to either extend for a couple of years or cash in now - fortunately no one is likely to meet our valuation now but if he doesn’t want to extend it puts us in a difficult position.
