I watched Diego in the 1986 World Cup, back when I knew absolutely nothing about football.  Even I could see that he was something special.

He was a reminder that fifa, TV companies and big business can sanatise and commercialize it they want but the game still belongs to street kids all over the world.

Have only just recently been watching old YouTube clips of him, even when warming up and training to the music being played in the stadium you knew he was one of a kind. 

 

I will be honest, my initial reaction was that I'm surprised he had this long in him given his lifestyle over the last 30 odd years.

RIP but honestly, his whole farcical persona after his playing days is not something I will miss. 

Brilliant talent, but not sure he deserves the celebration and veneration that he has gotten.

There isn't a football fan from this generation who doesn't wish they'd have been able to see him play live. It's always difficult to compare players from older eras to the pampered stars of today but I always think about the shit they had to deal with and some of tackles players could get away with, yet he was still incredible.

 

We've grown up hearing about all negative stuff, where there was plenty, but what a player.

Absolute legend. Definitely the best player that ever lived. Can’t say he didn’t have  a full life. I guess the only regrets he might’ve had was not playing for Leicester. He was definitely an LCFC type of player. RIP
