Both offer absolutely nothing going forward but surely that means we can as Foxestalk come up with a formation that isn't all Claude Puel that will work.

Here's your task:

Get Nidid and Mendy into the team without hindering our attacking play.

How about we just say to Tim and Ricardo you have a licence to attack with the best two defending midfielders in the world behind you, go for it!

o:

                            Kasper

             Evans.  Fofana   Calgar

                    Ndidi.    Mendy

Ricardo.           Tielemans.       Castagne

                         Maddison

                           Vardy

What we've seen is that Mendy is a reliable and able back up for Ndidis position.  Something we never thought was going to happen until we saw him get a run of games.

However, unfortunate as it is, he just doesn't get in over Ndidi at any point, unless to rest Ndidi or if he's injured.  He's still technically in the same boat as he was 6 months ago.

That’s  what I’d go with to play both.
Obviously Ricardo can play instead of Justin.

That’s the lineup if we ever play Bayern away lol

It looks bad on paper but if they play as true attacking wingers surely it's more attacking than most formations?

I think in these debates it does Mendy a bit of a disservice to assume that he is solely a lesser able version of Ndidi.

Yes he filled in when Ndidi was out, but he brings some different skills to the game.

I don't see why Mendy can't come on to help us keep and move the ball if Ndidi is already on the pitch, or to replace or rotate with him if needed.

Your probaby right I think if we want to see out a game then bring him on with wilf or start one or the other I don't think they both start if we want to win a game

Mendy has covered in midfield well but Ndidi improves the whole team around him - not just in midfield.

There is no reason to ever play both, if Ndidi is fit then for me every other midfielder in the squad starts ahead of Mendy, maybe even Hamza depending on who we're playing.

No. We've tried it before under Puel and under Rodgers. It doesn't work.

The obsession with 1 up front is weird but it's even stranger to play 2 defensive minded midfielders.

Think you need to concentrate on picking up St Ettienes form, Claude.

I think for the first time every we have maybe 15/16 players who would count themselves unfortunate not to be starting every week. If we had a full strength squad and lined up:

Kasper

Ricardo

Soyuncu

Fofana

Costange

Ndidi

Under

Tielemans

Maddison

Barnes

Vardy

That leaves: Justin, Evans, Praet, Mendy, Albrighton all out of the line up, despite all playing well.
We have huge strength in depth and it’s excellent to see.

But I thought Castagne was cheap? :P
