I don't think it was just coincidence, Mavididi simply just doesn't cover Kristiansen enough which I think is why he isn't starting.

 

We conceded vs Fulham similarly where Kristiansen was too central, and there was no cover from the winger. What do you think? 

 

I think this is RVD's dilemma - to stick or twist with a more attacking shape that leaves us vulnerable. Maybe Riccy P can do both and give us more security on the right, while keeping Ayew on the left? Who would you favour on the left? Fatawu's defensive game was underrated, we miss him so much. 

Is it really a dilemma anymore?  It's not like we're watertight.  It's only luck how we haven't been pumped more times than we have.  We're looking like we're going to get cut adrift at any point so whilst there's a chance to do it, playing to our strengths instead of trying to patch up our weaknesses seems a better plan.  Continuing how we are seems like madness.

I feel like returning first teamers skip this sort of thing nowadays? Remember family night football having a real buzz if first teamer was back from injury and was playing for an hour.

I remember family night football at Filbert Street. It's what got me hooked on supporting LCFC as a kid. Those were the days.

 

And yes, it was more exciting when a first tenner played.

I think it pre dated Beckham. One of the players was definitely Dion Dublin, returning after a leg break injury and there were two others too...sort of the Clayton Blackmore level. But it was enough stardust to get 15k in. Remarkable

Gary Neville was playing, Ormondroyd gave him a really tough match. Can't remember who else played.

I remember going too, Carling Stand, spent most of time throwing Maltesers at someone’s bald head about 6 rows down. The hi-jinx of youth eh. Apologise to the follically challenged middle aged bloke I hit on at least 6 occasions

If I remember rightly, it was Ben Thornley playing that everyone was raving on about at the time

I remember his name. He had a nasty injury in the 90s which pretty much stopped his career.
