Whats the new format?

Hoping Costa Rica get a play off spot purely because its an amazing country and the local kick off times for them were crap in 2018.

It hasn't been decided yet, but concacaf will move from 3.5 automatic qualifying spots to 6 with the expansion of the world cup. Most likely we'll have a few groups (rather than just one round robin we have in the final round of qualifying). US and Mexico will likely be split into separate groups, and even if they don't there won't be the high stakes that there is now.

Concacaf simply isn't deep enough in quality yet to have enough good teams to make it competitive for 6 teams to qualify and have good/deserving teams miss out.

The expanded WC format will essentially kill any meaningful qualifying process for the upper teams of this confederation.

And I believe the World Cup itself will have 3 team groups?

Last seen in 1982.

That’s not until 2026.

this year’s will be the usual 32 team format.

As for Italy, **** em.

I know supporting England for most of us carries a severe health risk but the Euros was the best chance we've ever had and Southgate still managed to cock that up. Yes the Italians were the form team of the tournament but the love fest afterwards was enough to make one gag. They won on penalties for god sake! Chilleni can now go do one as he'll be too old to play another big tournament. Shocking stuff to get put out by North Macedonia of all teams. If only the turks had their heads screwed on they could have shi#housed the whining winjbag Portuguese. Ronaldo kept falling over himself all game and couldn't hit the barn door lol. Cags really is mess sometimes. Their veteran striker missing a penalty to level it just caps it all off. They've been put of their misery at least. That Jota can't bloody stop scoring can he but I still dislike him as good as he is.

The last time Italy were at a World Cup we'd just been promoted from the Championship and Spurs still hadn't won a trophy for 7 years.

The last time Italy won a knockout match at a World Cup we were all buzzing at the Rob Kelly revolution, and looking forward to a successful 2006/07 campaign.

Fook me Canada had so many chances. Stupid yellow/red for us but essentially we are through. Costa rica has to win both games against usa and el salvador  hoping we lose both to jamaica and panama while over coming an +11 goal difference in the process.

You had one job Canada :revenge:

I kid. US in good position to qualify with a win at home against Panama.

That depends on if mexico loses to honduras right? Think they will need to win both games to be sure.

I believe all of the finals are on Tuesday, except the Scotland/Ukraine, Wales final, for obvious reasons.

Great to have such a quick turnaround.

Tough on ticket arrangements for fans though.

Oh yeah. Not sure why I thought it was June!

That free kick though seriously

Reminds me of Ronaldo vs Portsmouth (?). The technique anyway.

I don't mean that they'll be guaranteed a qualifying spot, but with a win against Panama, the only way the US could fall to 4th place and not automatically qualify would be for Mexico to get 4 pts, Costa Rica to get 6 points AND makeup the goal difference (currently at 7). That's pretty unlikely. Not impossible, but I trust us to not lose like 3 or 4 to nil lol

Hopefully not jinxing it.

But the Panama game is a must win

I'm surprised that Gareth Bale isn't lauded (outside of Wales) as one of the best players of the last decade, he seems to get an unwarranted amount of criticism.

He's a world class player as we unfortunately saw in the last game of last season and that was an amazing free kick.

I'm fairly indifferent to him as a person, if Real Madrid want to pay him £600k a week to play golf and sit on the bench that thats their fault, not Bale's.

Saying that, from no fault of his own, him and Thomas Muller have the 2 most punchable faces in world football so maybe that's it. I can't explain why, they just do. Max Verstappen has the most punchable face in world sport in case you were wondering.

It was one helluva free kick/goal. I've watched it several times in awe. How does Bale get the ball to do that? He more-or-less stabs it,  next to no follow through. The backspin must have been immense, and the ball just drops... placement, technique and magic!

Cristiano has got to be the most punchable.

If Verstappen and Horner were standing in a room together and you could only punch one of them that'd be a hell of a quandary.

Horner without a seconds hesitation if given the option lol
