I think we're seeking a reliable replacement for Fuchs: an experienced full back who can tuck in as an LCB if needed. Bertrand is much more aligned to that. I do Iike Van Aanholt, however I still have flashbacks to away at Reading eons ago when he took a throw in for us, in their final third, which directly lead to a Reading goal... I’m personally not keen on the thought of any left back filling in the centre defence positions. I think PVA is a better left back than Bertrand, currently. He would be a straight replacement for Fuchs and so would be more comfortable in a back four. Whether he could form an understanding with Barnes is a big question.
