Are we resigned to the fact he is staying for another season?

My thinking was given the sort of youth signings we are making that there might be an announcement about a coaching change coming up too?

I am sure I remember seeing something on here last year that Ben Petty was supposed to be taking over the under 23s and Beaglehole was going stepping into another role - but for some reason it obviously didn't happen

Out of interest, when was the last time we produced a Goalkeeper through our Academy?

Iversen was brought in at age 19 as an established Danish youth international and Johansson signed at age 19 from Villa having worked previously with Ben Petty.

Bizzare that we have not produced any keepers through our own Academy system for 10 years and yet no-one seems to be accountable for this.

We sign keepers from Hartlepool yet we cant produce our own?

Cant be too many jobs where you can produce no tangible results for 10 years and yet still keep your position...?!?

Conrad? Cisak had a jouneyman lower league career

Oliver Bosworth sounded like he was going to be decent (won academy player of the year 2 years in a row) but barely played last season and has now been let go

Stolarczyk started most PL2 games for us and at times was captain last season, 21 in December though so should really get out on loan

We have Arlo Doherty who has played a fair bit for the under 18s last season

Then we also have Odunze (now 18, signed from Vancouver when 16) and Chibueze (17, signed in February from Chelsea)

Yet again....you make some very good points.....especially interesting to read from an "insiders" perspective

Ive often wondered how many promising careers have been wasted at the hands of Beagleholes hoofball.....and why JR continues to protect him at the expense of talented youngsters who quickly become surplus to requirement based on their size and strength?

its a metric that can never be measured but what does speak volumes to me is that those academy graduates who have successfully broken through to our first team have all largely by-passed Beagleholes U23s (ie Barnes, Chilwell, Thomas..) and very few of them speak highly of them when eulogising about their development years in the academy system.

Personally, i dont believe this is just a co-incidence having watched Beagleholes hoofball giants for several seasons.

Genuinely a mystery to everyone outside of the 2 of them. Obviously no questions or thoughts would be asked if some results were positive.

In regards to talented youngsters released, have they then gone on elsewhere and proved the club incorrect? The most significant player who has gone on to be a success, yet small, that I can recall is Sam Clucas, but he was later released by Lincoln, so maybe he needed more time as a teenager. There are no universal truths when judging talent as we are all unique.

Were either of them in our development squad? Toney was at Northampton and made his debut for them at about 16 after playing in their youth team and Adams although a Leicester lad, I don’t think ever played in our development teams.

I still don’t think there is a single player who we have released who has gone on to be at a level equal to or above the where the club is at.

Apologies if it was unclear, the point @Foxy-Lady made was that due to physicality players were released. I doubt that either of the 2 examples were due to physical reasons, but I could be incorrect.

There are sooooo many players who are released, who have the ability to prove their respective decision makers incorrect! However, I imagine it is more a case of overcoming the mental disappointment of being released, and going back to another club and proving a point, then being offered a deal, that is the biggest challenge, to mentally go again.

Toney left our academy at 16, Che Adams was never in our academy

Years ago Celtic and Republic of Ireland goalkeeping legend Pat Bonner was released by us.

Not really, if they go on to be at an equal or higher level than where the club sits at the time, it would have been a mistake to let them go. If not, then the club would be justified in letting them go.

If all academies only had this 1 role then I would agree.

However they do not. They have 2 roles.

The second being, selling players who are at a level to play professionally. Therefore generating funds for the club / academy.

I think it becomes more likely to happen the more these young players CHOOSE to leave us. There's still a possibility of clubs releasing youngsters and them going on to make it, there's countless such players some of which we own right now but that possibility grows if the club wants to keep certain academy players but they turn us down and leave.

We've seen a few leave so far and others gain confidence in doing so, so far Gyamfi and Bassey probably aren't ever going to make us regret that but Tavares, Wanya Marca and Alves might be a different story.

Interesting to see we're signing highly rated youngsters for our development squad, almost acknowledging most of ours are poor or not kicking on

Poor or not kicking on. I wonder which of those is the most relevant? It needs someone to ask why are they not kicking on?

Only included the word poor to not fom across as completely shitting on Beaglehole. But let's be honest, it's likely people not developing as they should due to poor coaching.

Correct.

What have you heard on Wanya Marca and Alves?
