Appreciate it may be a bit confusing if English isn't your first language. It makes more sense if you break it down to its original meaning. Week-end - the end of the week in question is this one, so we describe it as this weekend. The end of the week in question in which the Community Shield match is being played is next week, hence next weekend.

Except we don’t use ‘weekend’ to mean the end of the week; it has become a distinct thing of its own. So the weekend is Saturday and Sunday (and Monday if it’s a bank holiday weekend I suppose).

Basically ‘this’ and ‘next’ will always be potentially confusing in this context. If you need clarity you have to be more precise.

Actually thinking about it it’s only ‘next’ that’s confusing…

We’ve just found our ‘he’s 28, he’s not he’s 29’

Until it's this weekend it's next weekend, thats a fact.

Sorry, you'll never convince me. 'This' weekend is exactly the same as 'next' weekend in this context. Ie. The next weekend is the next one we come to, not the one after.

When you stand at the front of a queue and the shopkeeper calls 'next', is that you or the person standing behind?

So to recap, it's next weekend Leicester are playing City, yeah?

There's only one 'City' and it ain't Manchester!

Or this weekend we played Burton. Next weekend we play QPR.

No, Burton was definitely last weekend and next weekend and this weekend are the same thing if said on a Monday to Thursday. (Friday's are a grey area)

What happens if you're seen to be WEARING red flares...?

I think it should be applauded as it's a reflection back to the 70s when times seemed less complicated and more optimistic. The downside would be that in my case, I'd have to double the waist size 🤣

Next weekend only works for the upcoming weekend if it is used on its own.

Am i the only one that would say it like this

This weekend is QPR, the following weekend is Wembley. :dunno:

Not sure it is for staff only anymore, it might have been months ago. However, normal eligibility criteria applies. I used it instead of the NHS booking system when I was eligible in late May/early June. I was not travelling Birmingham way or Derby way to get the vaccine when it was offered in Leicester.

I think in the past few months it has become more of a push to get people vaccinated as supply outstrips demand.

I think the latter is particularly relevant however it had seemingly started out. Possibly initial guidelines locally changed as uptake grew and different age groups got included. In many cases, whilst priority was given to certain group/ages, delivery to various outlets was maintained. Sometimes via the site they couldn't fill the appointments as certain eligibility groups came to an end and some people didn't bother to even turn up. In the case of the Pfizer jab in particular, that creates a problem because of certain storage and potential expiry issues and subsequently potential wastage.

4 examples would be:

1. The LRI on local media advertised on at least one occasion I know of for anyone in the vicinity to pop in to get a jab so as not to waste them, current eligible group or not.

2. A relatives daughter, a community nurse seconded to vaccinate at the Oadby Race Course stated that on occasions they were actively ringing round for anyone to come in for similar reasons.

3. The Peepul Centre rang Leicestershire police towards the end of one day to inform them they had 200 vaccines left if any police officers or support staff needed one.

4. The above did the same in the local media as weeks ago a friends son aged 25 had his second jab because his first had been via this method.

I can only guess it may be due to certain parts of the country being better geared up than others and getting through the eligibility criteria quicker? In the case of the appointments system, I can only assume that knowing that that regular delivery of vaccines would be taken, there would be a need to fill appointments to save wastage. Rightly, priority groups would be given first appointments but then any empty one's backfilled with whoever, again to avoid wastage. Appointments appeared to be available and refreshed on around a weekly basis so that those that needed them most got first priority. If appointments were all taken, an on screen message invited you to keep trying. This was also confirmed to me by staff upon my first appointment which was about two weeks before I was due for one if following national published guidelines. Like many of the rules, regulations and guidelines during this whole crisis, things at times have been incoherent, fluid and changeable at very short notice. In fairness, the whole thing must have been a logistical nightmare but on the whole, compared to various other EU countries, very successful despite it's foibles.

Brendan does'nt have much time for the new boys to gel into our team. We need Youre's situation to settle down too and any players that need offloading gone. I fear the new season is gonna come to quick and we're not going to be ready or make the fast starts like we did past 2 seasons. Charity shield against city will be the proof in the pudding. (I could be wrong - hope I am and we finish better than we start). Everyone is in the same boat so thats a good thing I guess - heck even manu lost their 1st pre-match.

Any idea if it’s going to be sold in priority order or just straight to all season ticket holders?
