I definitely think people feel emboldened to be dismissive of it because it is Africa, so there's a certain amount of prejudice involved for sure.

But 100% definitely the biggest problem is that it's an obviously massive inconvenience for some majorly wealthy clubs whose domestic leagues are worth millions to them.

Not quite sure what to think. To be honest, I think it's more to do with the timing of it in January that has people questioning it. Asking if players want to go is a bit off, though, it's a massive honour to play in tournaments.

Hes definitely spot on, it doesn't take long when the tournament takes place for one of the lower nation to start circling on social media with "this is the standard of afcon lol lol lol" it definitely deserves more respect than it does currently.

Why is it?

There's been many European footballers at the latter part of their respective careers who have moved to a club in the US to finish off their playing time successfully (such as Lampard, Gerrard etc.).

He's 30 and scored 19 league goals last season.

Gerrard and Lamparrd were over the hill when they moved.

Toronto seem a bit more forward thinking than the rest don't they? (Or more dollar to use for their non cap players).

That's Giovinco, Defoe and Insigne all signed at reasonable ages with plenty in the tank. They also brought Michael Bradley back to MLS at 27, have Alejandro Pozuelo who joins at 28 and brought back Kemar Lawrence.

How depressing is that, mans a boyhood legend and he's ditching the one club thing to go and play binman football .

He’s getting a 5.5 year contract at ridiculous wages that kicks in after he turns 31.

How many players get that in Europe these days (for better or worse, to be fair)?

I’m pretty sure Insigne will sleep like a baby and his reputation in Naples will be just fine in the end.

Just had the utter displeasure of watching Ethiopia vs Cape Verde for about 15mins on Sky... The commentator 🤮

Every sentence that comes out of his mouth is like proper short, if its a long sentence he'll just have long pauses every few words to break it up... And I'm sure there's a word for this but he ends every sentence on a high pitch, which makes him sound surprised or confused constantly

Is it me or is there way more sendings off in other leagues and countries than ours? Every time I scan through the results on the sky sports app each game week and it's littered with red cards across the European Leagues.

Only watched a small bit of the Cameroon/Burkina Faso game and the commentary was equally as bad. May have been the same guy by the sounds of it.
