I mean, fair play to be honest. The kid is going to be a monster. 

 

They desperately need to sort out their debt and build a squad around him. It'd be glorious if they can go back to roots and do it properly with La Masia graduates.

No idea why Belenenses have even played. Surely you just forfeit, although there's no way the game should go ahead anyway.

Lewandowski and even Salah have been robbed here. 

He's my favourite non Leicester player but no idea how he's won it. Him and Ronaldo are no longer the best players in the world for me.

Don't agree with that to be honest. 

 

The man scored 30 league goals last year (38 in all competitions) and almost single handedly dragged a woeful Barcelona in to the Champions League. 

 

He then got four goals and five assists as Argentina finally won the Copa America (in Brazil at that), something that's been used to bash him with his whole career (and Ronaldo got it when he won the Euros, so they basically "had to" do this.) 

 

The Ballon D'or always struggles a bit with recency bias and I think there's a bit of that in that comment Stan Tbf. Salah has had a good little streak at the start of this season but he had a very mixed year last year and was poor by his own standards at the start of 2021, only really coming back to life in April. 

 

Lewandowski I absolutely agree with, he was robbed, but I think they know that - hence why he got that ridiculous Striker of the Year or whatever it is. As soon as they gave him that gong you knew he wasn't getting the main prize. 

 

Anyone that thought it wasn't going to be Messi at the start of the night was being naive though. Between his Copa America win and him moving to the jewel of French club football it was pretty much nailed on, politically. 

 

(I should caveat all of this by saying I'm very cynical about the fact the whole things a largely political popularity contest.)

Messi still had ridiculous numbers. 

 

He's not a striker remember, it's not a golden boot award. 

 

You can make a case for either but i think people are comparing Messi to previous Messi years. 

 

He's still had a great year

See this is the thing, he's been doing it so long he gets completely taken for granted now and he's been such an alien that when he throws up numbers that are only exceptional instead of otherworldly, people act like he's been shit haha. 

 

The fact people think this is a massive injustice is just testament to how phenomenal a player he really has been.
