People are acting like this is the same as Everton signing James… difference is he had one decent World Cup and not a lot else… Coutinho has 41 goals and 37 assists in the Premier League!!!

Ayoze Perez has 43 goals in the premier league.. I have pointed out that 2021 Coutinho is not 2015 Coutinho. Those days are almost certainly gone for good.

This thread has similar tones to the Cambiasso thread all those years ago; the terms past it and we won't break our wage structure for him etc

To be fair, you’d probably know…

Sorry @Sambiasso, attempted joke based on your FT name, nothing more

Our best player had the best season of his life aged 29 and has gone on to do pretty well since…..

I’ve chosen to change the subject because your comparison made me want to cry.

It would be a gamble for sure but if it worked, he would be better than anything else we can realistically get. Every transfer is a risk, we could spend £30 on someone who flops.

We already did!

First thing I'll say is that this signing is nothing more than a fantasy. Never going to happen.

However, if it did, look past the impact he could have on the pitch.

What would a signing of this calibre do for squad morale? They'd be training with and playing with a world class player. What a statement of intent that would send to everyone.

And think of the players that would benefit from training with him. Barnes, Maddison, Perez, Sowah, Iheanacho and Daka could all improve their game just by playing with him.

I'm not advocating we sign the most expensive coach in history of course, and personally, it's not a signing I would particularly want. But to those asking where the benefit would be or what can he offer? A fair bit.

He's the kind of player who could potentially take us to the next level, If the club feel he's worth the money then in Brendan we trust.

.....no,no,no,no,no......just no!!!

We do not need a marquee signing for this club. We trade better, scout better, buy better and are a better run club for it. If we could inject £300m into our squad I do not wish to be Manchester City, United, Chelsea or all the clubs who feel that they are the chosen ones, and everyone else is their to make up the numbers.

We are building something special at this club, we are aspirational, a community based club and we have a policy that allows us to compete at the top of the league.

We do not need a marquee signing to tell others who we are.

So that's a no then?...

What you say is true, and I tend to agree on principle but.....

Daka is a statement of intent in that we have nabbed on of the hottest attacking prospects out there currently, but, getting a signing of someone of this magnitude would be another level and create a real buzz around the club. Xx

Of course its not Rodgers's money here and I don't see our very careful owners taking that sort of risk.

If the manager makes a strong enough case they will. He manages the team at the end of the day, and our owners are partial to a big name for shirt sales.

I wouldn’t dismiss this, yet. It definitely has legs, even if Coutinho doesn’t.

Again, just like the Bertrand signing (obviously for completely different reasons) can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want this to happen 🤷🏻‍♂️

Aside from the likelihood of paying big wages for him to sit on the treatment table, imagine a player going from Liverpool to Barcelona and then slumming it out on loan to Leicester.  Having hit the pinnacle, as @sdb says, can his heart truly be in it?  I think it would end in tears.

Young players on the way up for me, not old players on the way down.

I want my club to entertain me. City have done that for me, and surpassed all my expectations. We can have both young players on their way up, and blend it with marquee signings like this. Cambiasso is a good example.

Anyway; would signing Coutinho be any worse than Perez? As others have pointed out

‘I’m told…’ 😂☺️😂

Yeah well, it's an ITK after all  😂 has a good following and has got a lot right before, regardless, unless it's from Fab or better yet the club I'll always be sceptical.

If his heart isn't truly in it I doubt he'll come here right, I trust Rodgers to make that decision. He knows him from his time at Liverpool so he'll know him better than any of us.

Coutinho and Perez shouldn't even be used in the same paragraph let alone sentence.

Perez is shite, Coutinho is class.

... there, I've fitted them both into the same sentence.

Well I’ll give you the benefit @Adam_LCFC. I’d given up on them on Twitter

We’ve already done that. Slimani was a proper floppy.

....prove my point....we do not need to have Coutinho for exposure!!!

If it was not for his wages, perhaps all of Europe would be tempted to pick Coutinho up. That was not the same for Daka, great to pick him up but not a fair comparison.
