I didn't think 11 years ago that we would see these type of players at the KP, unless it was a cup tie, so I can only thank and praise the input of the whole KP organisation for letting us live the dream. A fully fit Maddison is almost the same level. Someone on heavy wages will end up on the bench. Its not worth it. 3

Barcelona won't play him next season as he triggers another €20m to Liverpool after a few more games. They need to get rid of Coutinho this window and Coutinho wants the PL. I've not seen many suitors being linked with him and I feel we could get him on loan for a reasonable cost before the window shuts. Coutinho will almost certainly go on loan somewhere this summer, the question is where? I think as the end of the window comes closer, our offer may seem more attractive if there are no better offers, that's when I could see him joining 1

We'll have to agree to disagree. I could never imagine Maddison being sold for £200m which would be about the same as £146m Courtinho went for, if you factor in transfer fee rises over that period.

indierich06 Posted 19 July 2021 Posted 19 July 2021 There's a lot of comments about how 'in form' or 'fully fit' he could be great for us - and there's no arguing with that. But it seems he's neither of those things, and it'd be a huge gamble to bring him in on big money, potentially upsetting the harmony at the club, to see if Rodgers can get him back to the level he used to be able perform at when he's been struggling for more than a couple of seasons now. I just think this flies in the face of the recruitment strategy that has served us so well and so effectively over the last few seasons. We buy quality players who are on their way up, who aren't yet on the radar of huge clubs, then sell on for a profit. Not ageing, injury-prone/out of form 'superstars' who put a huge dent in our wage bill. 2

We can have both young players on their way up, and blend it with marquee signings like this. Cambiasso is a good example. I loved Cambiasso, but would you take 2014/15 Cambiasso now? As a newly promoted team with little PL experience, if any, Cambiasso's signing was a masterstroke. A genuinely world class player (albeit in the twilight of his career), a wealth of experience and for free. It's amazing how far we have come in such a short time but we are a completely different outfit from the 2014 vintage, that is where the comparison breaks down. Cambiasso was great in 2014, but we have moved on. Couthino would also be a lot more expensive. 17 hours ago, FoxinNotts said: Anyway; would signing Coutinho be any worse than Perez? As others have pointed out I don't think that we should be using the Perez deal as any kind of benchmark, except for how not to do it. I'm not sure that merely being better than Perez is any kind of criteria to use in the transfer market. 1

It was a bad knee injury with further complications & surgeries - he's on 300k a week. Air raid sirens should be sounding in the heads of most people ... If we can thoroughly check him out physically, ensure he's also mentally motivated and not just here for the cash and then still make sure we're not lumbered with a £300k a week Matty James if it does go tits up, it could be worth a look if we desperately want a marquee signing. Any doubt we wouldn't get our money's worth then leave him to Everton or whoever
mazarron fox Posted 19 July 2021 Posted 19 July 2021 There is no way he’s coming here ( thankfully ) he’s the least LCFC player we’ve ever been linked to ( except Cryuff ) but I suppose it keeps some folk amused.

Bezzanator89 Posted 19 July 2021 Posted 19 July 2021 I feel compelled to ask if there is ever going to be any substance to this or we keeping this open on a wing and a prayer because of the Brendan Rodgers factor? Page after page of just speculation and what-ifs. But this Foxestalk so this is nothing new. Either someone please just put some kind of credible source or just close the thread.

That is down to Rodgers surely but you have a point , Kasper can't dictate play from his position. There is a strong case for making Youri match captain . Kasper could remain club captain now Wes has retired.

fleckneymike Posted 19 July 2021 Posted 19 July 2021 Zero chance of this. All the speculation will be generated by Barca who are desperate to shift his wages. Even a 50% pay cut would still make him our highest paid player.
