It does look like Nelson is destined to go right to the top, which is absolutely fantastic. There's been many occasions when we've got excited by an academy player aged 16/17 and it doesn't work out for them but it really does feel that it was just a matter of time for Nelson.

The pre-season of 2021 it was very clear he was a phenomenal talent but its taken 2+ years to get a chance.

Tbf in those 2 years he's had a loan or two, spent some time in adult football, and had a chance to physically mature.

Do you see him playing at least 15-20 games with us next year or going on a season loan to a championship side?

I think playing in lower leagues is incredibly important for a young CB.

Some of them seem to coast off the size and physical advantage but in those leagues, you can't because everyone is big and strong so you're forced to develop other aspects of your game.

I think Enzo's from the school of Pep with academy players and sees keeping hold of them more beneficial to the player and their progression in the system we play, than a loan.

Depends though as the PL will be a tough change for us but I think he'll be 1st choice by then or close to being.

It is an interesting decision. I can see us letting Coady go in the Summer, giving the lad some game time and he could really kick on.

I want him to get more game time so we can assess how good he really is and how realistic it is that he steps up to the PL next season. We've got a few conundrums at CB - this could save us tens of millions if we're convinced he's good enough.

Same team as KDH. I’m certain he’ll be as committed though.

That’s ruined my day. Thought he was one of us. 😓

Or it could ease FFP pain if an offer comes in for him close season as a “pure profit” sale.

If there's any time for a player to get more games it will be with promotion nailed on. Maresca loves to play the young players. He'll get at least 10 starts between now and the end of the season.

He really does look to have a bit of class about him. Makes it look effortless, great anticipation and decision making. Just needs to polish up a bit on his passing, which I'm sure he will do.

This. Also the composure. He never looks flustered.

You are right of course but do agree with what Teapot said on the last page, how broken is football that one of the immediate thoughts has to be that. Don't disagree with you at all and it will obviously be a big consideration. That being said I'd doubt we got anything like peak value this early on as he hasn't played enough.

What I'm saying really is I wonder if he could take Vestergaard's place in a PL side - it'd be a huge gamble and probably too big of one but if we pulled it off it would be a great move for us.

It’s incredible really that he’s only 19. I  seem to have the notion that CBs often develop later on due to the decision making and calmness  needed so for him to be getting game and not looking out of place at his age is a great sign and a tremendous encouragement.

He already looks like he should be a starter to be honest. Reminds me of when little Wes came onto the scene and just looked so comfortable and dominant despite his early years.

im beginning to think little Wes is Autistic because I’ve only ever seen that level of confidence  before and disregard for what’s going on around you in my son :D

Fascinating insight from Maresca, also goes against the notion he wants his defenders to just keep knocking the ball about safely. He's challenging them advance it in to dangerous positions constantly.

I think Nelson's natural at all aspects of the game, I don't really see a weakness. Fingers crossed his development pans out, I think it's going to be quick. He's ready.

Maresca 🤝 blokes who shout "gerrit forwards"

To be fair, I've only heard this from peeps who are only there for the odd match, peeps who have not been down for sometime and can now get tickets for games in spite of the defunct ticket office.

Where the seats are near the dugouts, who knows but I'd be surprised if its from peeps who have watched the team for a few seasons now, since we've been playing this type of stuff for a few seasons and last season was soooo bad, this season is like fresh air wafting away an awful stench.

Nelson hopefully can progress into something the Mancunians and Scousers can dream about

it tends to come around me in the ground when we finally get in behind their midfield and Winks or Ricardo turn and go back when wingers are wide open.

I wouldn't start Nelson if Vesty is out as I wouldn't trust Faes to play the central role he's too much of a maverick

I would think Nelson would be a direct replacement for Vesty if injured and would play centrally with Faes on the right.

in a few years maybe but not right now he's still establishing himself as a first team player

Was quite solid, wasn’t really troubled got booked then got replaced then we conceded 🤣
