Could you ever go back to being garbage?

I don't mean this in an arrogant sense, but I feel totally comfortable dining at the top table. 

 

We've become that working class lottery winner who, at first, is gauche and uncomfortable in the VIP lounges, at art exhibitions and  charity balls...but after a while of grooming, confidence and success,  carry it all off with that easy charm that A listers can have. 

 

We take the field against anyone and anywhere now and though I don't always fancy us to win, I do know we belong and are feared/respected. Zero inferiority complex.

I was there on a wet windy night at Yeovil and a balmy night in the Champions League v Porto......I'll be there wherever we are, whatever division it is....thats what loyal TRUE supporters do.

I'm just trying to enjoy every season as it comes. 

 

I was talking to an old work mate the other day who I was with at the KP in one of the posh boxes back in 05/06 for work commitments and on that day we were shite (as per norm back then) but it was the game Matty Fryatt scored our quickest ever goal and its mad to think that even after we lost that game I remember thinking you know what, its likely to always be this shite from here but at least I was there when... 

 

We have no idea what's around the corner, just drink it in right now and what happens, happens, we have achieved more since the mid 90's than most club fans have ever witnessed in a lifetime. 

 

And yes I could go back to being garbage, I'd like a season ticket again and miss the likes of Prenton Park, Huish Park etc

I think the acceptance that this era will one day end makes it much more enjoyable, and also helps soften the disappoints i.e. missing the top four. I really don't want to get into the habit of expecting success, just look at half the supporters of the rich 6, miserable 90% of the time. Think we're starting to see it on this forum too, which I suppose is inevitable as the fanbase grows.

Much like Forkie's story arc in Toy story 4, we started as trash, really came alive (in the title winning season) and then struggled with our identity (as a top half PL team) for a while. Now, as a main protagonist (in the league) we could never go back to being garbage with the memories of what we used to be.

I've said a couple of times to friends/family since we've been back in the Prem (starting from about Christmas 2014)  that I can't hack being back in the Championship again. 

 

It's just a fvcking awful league. All of this "the football league is REAL football, its a better league, its more competitive, anyone can win it" rubbish is just 100% abject denial and we know it. 

 

I don't care if we're crap, mid table, boring, Evertonesque jobbers in the Prem as long as we're actually in the thing. 

 

That said, I know full well that if we were actually relegated we'd all get used to it fairly instantly. It's remarkable what you actually CAN tolerate. Give it a few months of being back and it'd just be normal again.

Yes, but I feel I have greater appreciation now of how some clubs end up living in the past and struggle to get behind failing teams. Once you’ve seen the difference in quality for yourself it’s hard to go back and truly believe in the hearty but limited triers that get promoted from the Championship.

If \ when we have to go back then of course i'll still keep turning up (for home games at least), but my word it would be a struggle after all of this sustained success.

I enjoyed visiting the likes of Hereford as much as I do Wembley, which probably makes me a bit sad. In all honesty, couldn’t care who Leicester play or who plays for them, the club will always have my heart.

 

It’s like being married to your soul mate, sometimes good, sometimes shit but wouldn’t want it any other way.

People lost their minds when we won the FA cup and finished 5th some were even calling for the manager to go.

 

God only knows how these entitled little babies will cope with loosing to Tranemere in leauge 1 on a wet Tuesday night.

I'd rather be fighting for promotion than boring mid table in the Premier League. Especially now after the highs of 2016 and the last two seasons. 

 

I also think we'd accept it a lot more easily and a lot quicker than people realise.

call me crazy, but I enjoyed a last minute winner away at Scunthorpe away in league one as much as I enjoy a winner against any premiership team. No team I'd rather support, regardless of our standing at the time.

League 1 was still one of my favourite seasons, but I do quite enjoy being this good! 

 

It won't last forever and Rodgers will go in next couple of years, as well as a handful of some of our stars. Enjoy the moment everyone!

So was i. Well, I wasn't at either actually but you know what I mean. I've done the hard miles too.

Yes! It was actually. It was the ghost of Xmas past for us. The game and crowd looked fantastic in fairness. But ultimately, nobody but those present were interested. I like us being famous.

The thing is when we were crap I didn’t actually realise how crap we were. Lingering around in the championship. You just go through blind faith. 2005-08 was awful looking back. We were always a big club in the championship, always mooted as a team that could get promoted, but things weren’t right behind the scenes and financially. You look at the clubs that have been in and around the prem that haven’t been well ran - Bolton, Ipswich, Wednesday, Hull, Derby, Blackburn, Portsmouth and how they’re struggling now and it makes you even more grateful that we have who we have as our owners and how well run the club is. Even Arsenal, one of the biggest clubs in the country have become a bit of a laughing stock and it all boils down to how they’re being ran and what’s more important to them - money.
