Chelsea/Tottenham - no love lost there.

A very interesting history behind this one too which transcends the terraces into the respective board rooms.

I remember going to the Baseball ground in the 80s when City drew Burton Albion in the FA Cup - Derby fans turned out in force in the away end and carnage ensued - there was trouble inside and outside the ground - on the terracing there must have been around £100 in 10p pieces that had been thrown at us by the Derby (Burton) faithful. All sharpened as well, which was nice. From memory, we wont that game 6-2, but it had to be replayed behind closed doors at Filbert Street - and I think we won that 1-0......I hate Derby....mainly because of that !

I was there too. Warnock was managing Albion at the time. Absolute chaos in and outside of the ground. The replay was at Highfield Road. After this we didn't play Derby much being in different leagues but I recall drawing them in the Milk Cup and that we were taunting them in the Kop. Fighting ensued after the game which spilled into and inflamed a full scale riot in Highfields.

The sharpened coins was one of my most vivid memories of the Kop - you could hear the clatter from the hail of them as they hit the mesh between pens two and three from upstairs in the double decker. I was on someone's shoulders against Forest and was hit in the temple by one. In the eye and it may very well have cost me my sight.

I just dug out an article from the Guardian on that first game. it said that City were allocated 6,000 tickets and only took up 1,600 or so and the rest went on general sale, which is where the Derby "fans" stepped in and bought a load of them...in our end. I remember going through the turnstiles onto the terracing and thinking "this doesn't feel or look right".

I don't think we'd be top of nearly anyones in all honesty, but that is one especially crap survey.

The only team that openly seem to care about us as a ‘rival’ is Cov.

I remember when we had something going on with the Plymouth fans after we nicked Holloway and took a detour to League One. Time really changes everything....

I have always hated the big boys and some of their arrogant supporters and their arrogant bullshit, so its really weird that we are competing with them now and then see some of us Leicester fans becoming, what I have always hated.

Yep and even they would probably vote for Villa over us. Yet we'd probably put them third (possibly second ahead of Derby now). I do think if Wolves' owners had bought Coventry we'd consider that a big game now, and vice versa, but I think the fact a lot of people regarding Forest say things like "it's been that long I can't even get worked up over them now" does sort of tell its own story. Newcastle fans still bang on about League One Sunderland.

I don't think we have any fierce rivals in all honesty. We're so far clear of the usual three as well it's unreal.

The problem for us is, all of our Midland rivals got relegated from the EPL years ago.

But they dont care about us anyway.

Most rivalries change a bit over time.

The longest lasting ones tend to involve similar-ish sized clubs (or with the same delusions of grandeur), and playing each other on a fairly regular basis - and over a long period of time (many decades).

That's why there's no rivalry between Southampton and Bournemouth, or Ipswich and Colchester, or Man Utd and Oldham, or Liverpool and Tranmere, etc etc.   The list is endless.

I've always had a sneaking admiration for West Ham, in that they absolutely hate Millwall as their number one rival ... even though they are a much bigger club, better history, and usually playing in a higher division ... and have 100's of decent games against the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.

Never trust a Guardian article!.

The crowd that day was about 22,500 split pretty much 50/50 between Leicester and Derby/Burton.

We had the Osmaston End behind the goal, and the whole of the Main Stand (opposite the TV cameras).     They had the Ley Stand (under the cameras) and the end behind the goal to the left.

I don't think there were any Derby in our end, but I'm fairly sure the Baby Squad were out in force in the Ley Upper tier - above the Derby fans,   That's one of the places it kicked off.    and a load of coins flying over near the corner between the two fans.

It's 36 years ago now and my memory is fading a bit,  But it was all very tasty.
