But I bet we will do the same as the last two years and do nothing . Tielemans has been decent this season??? Anyway, he's not an attacking midfielder like Maddison so are you saying we need another creative midfielder like Tielemans or someone to challenge Maddison? A hybrid would be good, as 2 would be expensive but someone of Donny Van de Beek's skill set would be ideal.

If we value Tielemans at 50 million , expect to pay the same otherwise we get a "prospect" and we just cannot afford that right now.

Not necessarily, we don't buy £50m players to compete with our most important players. If there's a prospect who can deputise for Tielemans and we can develop relatively quickly then that would be an attractive option or a highly talented player who has fallen out of favour - Van de Beek but even that would be a difficult signing to come in as competition with Youri. Some may argue we have that in KDH anyway. If we were to buy a £50m player then surely the focus is at right wing.

An Sionnach Posted 1 December 2021 Posted 1 December 2021 In the end too much inexperience is a real risk , we have been reliant this season on the experience of Evans and Vardy. When Youri goes ,we need an experienced man in midfield. The strategy of buying young cheap and selling expensive is beginning to wear thin.

Wages will be as bigger issue as the transfer fee's we pay. We brought Youri when his career had gone stale at Monaco and therefore manage to get him on very low wages. A like for like Youri replacement at his current level would blow our wage structure, which is already on the limit

You were talking as if we need a £50m player to come in for Tielemans when he's not playing. That's not going to happen. If and when we sell Youri then yes, I agree that we need to be replacing him with a player that will be very difficult and very expensive to recruit but we have to try to.

Youri is now at a very high level and we need somebody of similar ability otherwise our midfield will be weakened. I think we may have to go for an older player who will be cheaper to buy even he he commands high wages.

He was certainly high energy at Ajax. I can't put my finger on why he's been so badly used at Man Utd or barely used should I say. He's not a luxury sort of player either, although he can play as an advanced midfielder he's the sort of player that wants to dictate play from the middle of the pitch as often as possible, as opposed to being solely interested in getting involved only when the ball is in the attacking third. Fits the Tielemans category for me of a high quality young player who saw his career slightly stunted, I'd rather we went for someone like that and look to get his career back to where it should be (which would make him a candidate for being too good for us) than taking a punt on an unproven youngster to fill Youri's boots. 1

LVFox Posted 1 December 2021 Posted 1 December 2021 I just want a creative right winger that can chip in with 5-10 goals a season. Madueke Berardi Antony (Unrealistic but I'd absolutely love it). Agree with @Ric Flairre: Van De Beek as a Tielemans replacement too.

He's already had 3 goals disallowed in the league plus scored 1 and 2 more in the cup, 1 was a ridiculous decision and 1 I felt harsh (vs Leeds) and then vs Chelsea the pass was delayed ever so slightly that he just drifted off but it shows he has a knack for finding space for shots close to goal, that's what's impressed me most about him so far with plenty still to come. 1

Liverpool are the kings of selling their squad players for big money. £20m ? can’t see them selling and if they did would need to be nearer £50m if they are prepared to sell for 20m then it shows he’s a crock …
notnow john Posted 1 December 2021 Posted 1 December 2021 I think we’ll find Van der Baek is a Rangnick type of player. 2 1
Flannel_Fox Posted 2 December 2021 Posted 2 December 2021 I have a feeling Iheancho will get moved on, hopefully for a good fee. Use that to bring in a top right Winger
Ric Flair Posted 2 December 2021 Posted 2 December 2021 Madueke not scored a single goal or assist since deadline day I don't think, I'd still go for him though.
coolhandfox Posted 2 December 2021 Posted 2 December 2021 RW who is creative, quick and willing to put in a shift defensively.

Been injured, and missed 11 of the last 13 games to be fair, hardly played since mid-sept. The 2 he did play were in October were he managed about 120 minutes before pulling up again. An Sionnach Posted 2 December 2021 Posted 2 December 2021 Be surprised if we sign anybody , with JJ and Wes due to return there is no room in the squad. As usual unloading will come against the barrier of pay. Benkovic might move on but we have said that before. 2
