Leicester City official in Lisbon transfer planning – Second trip in recent months

http://sportwitness.co.uk/leicester-city-official-lisbon-transfer-planning-second-trip-recent-months/

Leicester City were one of several Premier League sides to send scouts to watch Benfica’s clash with Sporting on Friday night.

That’s according to A Bola, who say the Foxes had someone in attendance to run their eye over the top of the table clash.

There’s no mention of who Brendan Rodgers side were there to watch in the game, which ended in a 3-1 win for Sporting, but the standout performer was midfielder Matheus Nunes, who bagged a goal and an assist in all around excellent performance.

All three of Sporting’s forwards, Paulinho, Pote and Paulo Sarabia, were also in fine form, as was midfielder Manuel Ugarte and defender Pedro Porro.

It was Nunes who stole the show, although he is yet to be linked to Leicester as far as we’re aware. Interestingly, the one Sporting player they have been linked with is Joao Palhinha, but he missed this game.

On the Benfica side of things, Everton put in a solid display, and so did Joao Mario, but it’s hard to see Leicester being interested in either of them.

This is the second time we’ve seen reports of Leicester being at a Benfica game, though, as they were known to have watched the clash with Spartak Moscow back in August.

It seems likely they’ve got their eye on someone in the Benfica squad then, and the obvious choice would be Darwin Nunez, although he had a rotten time of things in this game.

Either way, they’re definitely scouting someone, and if they weren’t, perhaps Nunes will have earned their attention after this game.

Nunez would be too expensive along with Pote I’d have thought… always get linked to Rafa but he’s 28 and not particularly special? Anyone else not too sure about

Think our experienced place at left back has been taken by the worlds greatest Ryan Bertrand. Reckon they’d swap?

Only if we are planning to bury Bertrand under the stadium expansion

Sean Dyche and bring Nick Pope with him.

This squad needs a huge overhaul. People might think this is harsh but I genuinely think we need to sell 6-7 players and buy replacements with the funds. Sell whilst their values are high and buy players with hunger.

sell - Soyuncu, Ndidi, schmeichel, Pereira, Evans, Perez, Choudhury, Bertrand, vestergaard. I could probably list more. All the players named have bombed this year and look like they are shadows of the players they have been.

buy - Henderson, Tarkowski, Lamptey, Smalling. Just a few players who could come in and replace a few of the sold players. All 4 would improve the XI and you know they are solid players at premier league level.

I know this is going to sound parochial, but, I want a couple of players who know this league and know how to play in it. Trouble is they won't come cheap. We're too soft, collapse too easily in the face of adversity and need some bloody backbone in the side.

No idea who these players could be but we desperately need them. Not sure I'd want to gamble on overseas players who need time to bed in, we need players who can step up to the mark right away.

Dean Henderson’s a good shout.
Maybe Ward’s good enough but we won’t know unless we play him. Iverson’s looking good for 2-3 years down the line.

In short, play Ward from now and if he doesn’t convince, go all out for a modern sweeper keeper in January

Iversen is 24 he's not young, if he isn't good enough to play for us this summer I'd be looking to cash in

Yeah because all keepers are notorious for not developing after they reach their mid 20's

we already have Ward who is only a few years older, no point keeping them both unless one of them is the no 1

Why isn't there? Iversen could easily have another 2 years out on loan and arguably still not be in his prime years
