When my mother-in-law visits, if you can ignore the overt racism and homophobia, there is endless fun to be had listening to her malapropisms.

Just last night we had balaclavas (baklava - a Middle Eastern sweet pastry); Flamingo dancing (flamenco); a pigment of the imagination; a wolf in cheap clothing; and, finally, (my personal favourite) she described someone as an escaped goat (scapegoat).

Does anyone else know someone like this?

My old boss "Pacific" rather than "Specific" and a million others. Drove me insane.

Since my hearing got messed up I often mis-pronounce player's names but hey it gives my son a few laughs.

I don't know if it counts as both words sound the same so it's not pronounced differently, but for years I thought people talking about a player missing "a guilt-edged change" rather than "a gilt-edged chance". I thought it refered to a player feeling guilty after missing it.

Yeah, that's an example of a homophone rather than a malapropism:

My son has  only just stopped calling McDonalds  ‘ Old McDonalds’ .

My son called it 'hot Mcdonalds' til he was about 8.

A malapropism is the accidental (or occasionally deliberate) mistaken use of an incorrect word in place of a word with a similar sound, producing a nonsensical and sometimes humorous result. I'm not sure if simply mispronoucing a proper noun qualifies.

Were there thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening?

Fortunately, no but I dread to think how she'd have said "Scaramouch".

The Iheanacho one gets my goat, it's not even a difficult name to pronounce!

True, even Robbie Savage can get it right.

It is. From Google search: It's a Flemish name so it's TEA-luh-monss. He speaks both languages (though I think French is his mother tongue.)28 Apr 2019

I remember this discussion when he first signed and watched the obligitary You Tube stuff where the Belgium commentators pronounced his name Tee-luh-mans.

Every time I come across a word that looks hard to say but I know what it says I always ask my missus to say it, for example, when Yakubu played for us I asked her to read his name and she said it like YAK-A-BOO. It's brilliant! I do it all the time with different things especially places. When my old dear was alive she used to say some great ones like chimley or public hair... God I miss her. Brings back memories 😢
