You get some real tools at these games when they are on general sale. Had some 17-18 year old thinking its cool to scream swear words at full blast every time he spoke.  I’m not averse to swearing but sat right behind my 10 year old daughter it was ridiculous.  The sort who constantly shouts “somebody hit the c@nt” when opposition have the ball. Absolute clown

another group of lads spent the entire first half obsessing over Dan Burn. Classics such as “lanky bell end”.
big day out once a year for some of these idiots

I usually sit in the Family Stand, and there is an 8-year-old who sits behind me constantly yelling "Snap his leg in half" every time the opposition has the ball.

I’m considerably older than 8, but I still do that to Jelly Babies too to be fair.

Yeah, Rodgers would hate to be in a semi-final in January! C'mon, Rodgers obviously wanted to win, and it is a good opportunity to give a large squad game time.

He’s balancing everything

of course he’d rather go through but he wouldn’t have been overly devastated to go out. He’ll be crossing his fingers to get Sunderland at home !

We’re getting good at penalty shootouts aren’t we

Ward has probably paid back his transfer fee on that alone

He has an interesting method: He takes absolute ownership of the ball before the shot, picks up the ball and places it, kinda even in your face to the guy taking the penalty...

I told my friend Ward is usually good for at least one save, and I was right.

Missed the game last night so Carnt comment on performance but come on lads and lasses get behind the lads stop slagging them off get behind them we won that’s all that matters yes we would like great performances from each and every one of the squad but it ain’t going to happen

Personally thought it was a very disjointed display and we were lucky to progress.  Brighton actually played the better football I like the way they use the full width of the pitch Potter has them playing some good football.

I was annoyed with their first goal Ward made a brilliant tip over save but from the resulting corner we switch off and they score.

Both Vestergaard and Bertrand were poor, as was Thomas (what has happened to him he played well in the cup final)

Choudary some good tackles but his positional sense is atrocious.

There were times also where Daka was puttingm himself into great positions up front and witha quicker release from Ward he could have played him in.  However, each time we delayed and Brighton were allowed to get back into shape.  Tis a pity we are obviously coached to do this.

Pleased we got through on penalties though so I will take it but our reserves are honestly not very good.

I was about to join you but then I realised that it was so cold that my legs wouldn’t function properly

Some stats just from the 1st half ,

choudhury only pasted the ball forward 3 times , and even when he received it with no one near him he still went backwards.
thomas was not much better he went backwards also every time , how the hell can u get on the front foot when u have players who want to go backwards every f***** time .

I've noticed that with Thomas..nearly all his passes go either sidewards or backwards..thought this might change last night with Barnes in front of him..perhaps as he develops he may gain more confidence

I think that’s a pretty harsh assessment, I agree it was a disjointed performance which is what you would reasonably expect with so many fringe players coming in.

Taking into consideration that Brighton are a decent team and by the 60-70th minute had close to their strongest team out I thought we did well to ride it out and take it to penos, always felt that we were a threat going forward with the front 3 although Barnes dropped off (which is to be expected) and should have killed the game earlier in the 2nd half.

I assume your forgetting the ball down the line for Daka when we scored the first goal and the pinpoint cross he put on vestergaards head that he should have scored from in the first half?

if there isn’t a forward pass on he has to play it back this is the build up play Rodger’s has us playing.

Hamza absolutely drove me crazy with his backwards passing.  Never even looked forward - immediately his eyes darted to Ward to see if he could pass back to the keeper, even if he was in the attacking half.  Comic and tragic at the same time.

Some criticism of Thomas and Hamza on here but bear in mind that they've been given very little game time recently.  Hardly good for their confidence, match sharpness or team play.  So how can you expect that, when they're suddenly called up, that they can put in superstar performances?

Also the criticism about passing backwards seems harsh.  Ability to pass forwards depends to a large extent on the ability/willingness of those in front to provide them with an opportunity to pass forwards.  What's more, there's evidence to suggest that Rodgers instils into them the prime objective of not giving the ball away, which gives rise to an ultra-cautious mentality.  That has been evident throughout the team in many phases of recent games, culminating in the totally unproductive passing between our defenders.

Vestegaard for that second goal was absolutely horrific.

Hamza isn't up to it against a second string Brighton team. Seems like a nice bloke who always tries his best but I'm not convinced he's even Championship standard. Matty James would still be a better option.

KDH was poor but still finding his way. Also disappointed with VDC.

Another positive result though and good to see Barnes get some more game time. Imagine if he could finish all those one on ones he misses every game. He'd be on 20+ a season.

No one's looking for superstar, just competent.  Hamza can break up the odd attack but his relentlessly negative passing is absolutely untenable in any match you're seriously committed to try and win.  I don't excuse Rodgers' philosophy from blame totally, but there's no worse offender than Choudhury - it was just brutal to watch.
