What a day that Final was

Better than winning the league I think 🙈

This quote shouldn’t make any sense, but, yeah I agree…. It was certainly not that bigger achievement  to be clear…

I was too wracked with anxiety to fully enjoy the league win….  Although I loved it In the end!

As a one off, being at Wembley with my son and having the most perfect day in every way (feeling normal and around people again forming part of the general euphoria)…. It was one of the most memorable days in my life

My resting heart rate during the final was 109 and I took up smoking again for the day.

For supporters of my generation with Fathers and Grandfathers that had been to the 49, 61, 63 and 69 FA Cup Finals as well as seeing us get knocked out at places like Harlow, Exeter, Bristol Rovers, QPR, Newport etc etc it was the dream !

The highlight of 2021 by a country mile

Really hard to compare them, as the league was just such an astonishing achievement and when it happened it was such a unique feeling, like the payoff to months of anxiety of something that really should be impossible.

But the final was completely different, just one game against a team we'd already beaten this year; it's been 20 years since we were in a final and been at Wembley for Boro, Spurs and Tranmere, so I sort of remembered what it was like. Though this time I wasn't at the stadium and unlike the league win, I was in the same country as my dad and was able to watch it with him.

Seriously ****ing tense for the first hour, especially after Evans went off. But that goal. ****ing wow. I broke my jandals celebrating and nearly fell into the TV. My dad was going APESHIT. And then I spent the next half an hour pacing around the room. Couldn't ****ing sit down. Even doing circuits of the hall with the telly in the corner of my eye. When Chilwell scored I just swore and sat down. Then it was disallowed and I was jumping around like we'd ****ing scored again. Final whistle goes and I'm screaming and crying into my 1997 League Cup winners flag stood right in front of the TV. My dad is LITERALLY running around the ****ing house. Tears, hugs, the special whiskey. What a day.

Like I said, impossible to choose between them. Great days though, we should have more of them.

We beat Liverpool twice.

We beat Chelsea twice.

We beat Manchester City at Wembley.

We beat Manchester United 3 times - the first win at Old Trafford in 23 years.

We won at Wembley 3 times in one year.

in 2021 we won the FA Cup for the first ever time.

We finally completed the domestic set.

Love this thread. I thought winning the league was just an unbelievable wonderful achievement. The FA cup has always been the elephant in the room if you have any knowledge of our club. I assumed the league would dispel it but it remained still. Winning it was the pinnacle . The winning goal being a picture and not a rebound off someone's bum etc made it even better . My wife was worried for my heart during that last 30 mins or so.

We sold nobody in the summer for the first time.

We qualified for Europe through the league for the 3rd time ever.

We hold the fasted hat-trick in Europa League history.

We spent the first year at our new training ground.

We finally announced plans to expand the stadium.

Yes, we had unprecedented injuries.

Yes, we had some shocking performances.

Yes, we failed to qualify for the Champions League on the last day of the season. Again.

Yes, we had a humiliating exit from the Europa League.

Yes, we still have some of our own fans who let us down (everyone does).

But in 2021 we won the FA Cup for the first ever time.

We finally completed the domestic set.

And what a ****ing day that was.

On reflection, 2021 wasn't too shabby, was it?

Here's to an even better 2022.
