An early memory of mine was checking Ceefax for one of our games v Newcastle (not sure if home or away) and Savage had scored. Dunno why but I just remember that.

Remember this?

Saw on Breakfast TV a young lad has recreated Ceefax online - https://www.nathanmediaservices.co.uk/teletext-viewer/

I said in another thread quite recently, I can remember 'watching' some away games on Ceefax.

R Leicester live reports were restricted to once every 10 minute or when a goal was scored

Puts into perspective when we grumble if we can't get a stream in this day and age.

Loved it!!!

Waiting for the scores to update whilst listening to the match on the radio.

(Us darkies weren't welcome at Filbert Street in the early days!!!)

I'm sure we even booked a teletext holiday!!!

Posted

Booked a holiday off teletext once. 60 odd pages of sitting through;

Crete 299pp 14nt Gatwick RO

Menorca 329pp 10nt Manchester HB

Then, once you'd identified a holiday, you'd have to scribble the phone number down quick before the page clicked over or you'd have to wait another 25 mins til the page came round

Miss checking the scores and eagerly awaiting the page to change lol

Also used it for checking film times at the cinemas in those days. But had to be quick!

Ceefax page 302 will be etched in my memory forever I think.

I just clicked the link and my brain typed in '302' without even thinking or registering what I was doing. Crazy :D

VALE PICK BOGIE TO STRENGTHEN SQUAD

That was the headline when Port Vale signed Ian Bogie.

The Ceefax guys didn't go for word play very often, but when they did, oh boy, it was powerful stuff

I still look at it now on the T.V.  Football is still page 302 and generally the latest scores are only 2-3 minutes behind the internet. Not sure if you can still book holidays on there but i like looking at the news headlines etc.. when i have 5 minutes peace after the rest of the rabble have gone bed.

I remember seeing news that Roy Essandoh had scored against us for Wycombe via Ceefax - it's one of my earliest footballing memories where I specifically remember how gutted I was.

You'd still be slightly too young for it now! lol
