Thought he was outstanding, his physicality and aggressiveness I think impressed me most, was sensible and tidy enough on the ball in the main, superb debut from the young man! 💪🏻

Well done young man! Did brilliantly, especially considering he changed positions part way through

....U23s seem to switch players around!!!

Not sure if it is by design or necessity but you do get sign of the Ajax feel to some degree ( they do not play lime Ajax). It is great when a player understands his role in a certain position, and also appreciate what is happening around him.

Our misfortune with our injuries has at least enabled us to see what some youngsters can do, it’s normally so difficult with the money at stake, expectations of supporters and pressure to win on the manager to blood youngsters. So many go through the system that we never actually see what they are capable of at first team level.

Brunt was impressive, and joins the list of youngsters that have done well this season.

His understanding and reading of the game was impressive, He never looked fazed going into any challenges and was positive with the Ball when he won it.

He also looked very versatile and could play in midfield also or out wide if needed.

That was exactly what I thought. His positional awareness and footballing brain is excellent. Especially for his age. You can’t really teach some of that -just improve on it. The way he held his position first half and had the discipline not to go diving after tackles or chasing the ball was very good. I winced when Brendan swapped him to left back but if anything those skills can even more to the fore in that role. He came inside to cover the centre backs when the unit moved across and he looked strong on the ball and in the air. Lovely trick and run too. We have unearthed another talent here for sure.

Excellent.

Is he our 8th choice left-back.

Bertrand must be ninth choice then

If we do get a centre back in hopefully he goes out on loan, otherwise I think he might actually get some decent game time at the moment

Leicester City prospect could follow Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall path to prove Aston Villa wrong

Leicester City are weighing up the short-term future of Lewis Brunt after his accomplished debut in the FA Cup win.

City boss Brendan Rodgers called on a handful of talents from the development squad for the 4-1 third-round success against Watford, with Brunt the pick of the bunch, playing the whole 90 minutes across three positions.

Starting in defensive midfield, he shuffled to left-back after half-time, and then finished the game as part of a back three.

Showing composure on the ball and aggression in defence, Brunt impressed. Now Rodgers has to decide what to do with the 21-year-old, and whether it is better that he remains with the squad or is loaned out for more opportunities of first-team football.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s excellent campaign at Luton and subsequent rise to first-team starter at City shows the latter option is a promising one.

“I think his best position will be from behind,” Rodgers said in his assessment of Brunt. “At Aston Villa as a young player he played as a midfield player, so I knew he could handle it.

“Plus, while he’s got decent pace, I like someone really fast in the back-line which is why we had Hamza (Choudhury) there, Hamza’s really quick.

“He showed when he went in there that he can play football. He’s a really good passer of the ball, he’s technically very good. Tactically he understands the game. I think what Brunty needed was an opportunity.

“When he moved into the back line, he played at left-back, and then eventually he finished as the third centre-half in a back three. I thought he looked very accomplished. He was physical, which I like, he defended forward and he passed the ball well.

“It was a great start for him, and now he has to build on that. He’s got to maintain that hunger and that drive. That might mean staying here, that might mean going for a loan period to play under sustained pressure.

“You see the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, what he’s given those players who go out on loan. If they do well they can come back and become different players.”

Brunt’s arrival at City in the summer came after his release by Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

City Under-23s coach Ben Petty had previously worked at the club, and so knew Brunt well, recognising that he had something to offer, even if Villa did not see fit to renew his contract.

“I’m delighted for him,” Rodgers added. “He’s a young guy who came in here on the back of virtually a couple of years out at Aston Villa.

“He’s come into here on the back of Ben Petty who knew him, and Ben’s done a great job with the second team preparing them for first-team football. You’ve seen the evidence of that with him coming in and being really comfortable.”

He's 21. I would hate for him to go on loan mid-season and not crack the squad in the loan team.

If we don't get in defensive reinforcements, we are going to struggle with injuries. I can see us playing twice a week until the end of the season (even beyond, if we have to reschedule any more games.)

Unless it was a situation of guaranteed playing time, I'd be tempted to keep him around the first team and reassess in the summer.

Agree...Rodgers found a decent player, exactly what we need going into a jam-packed EOS. He will get game time,at a level he needs,But doesn't have

to be pushed/forced into every game and can support others from the Bench & odd game as First name for rotation purposes..

Oh definitely I would only want him to go somewhere where he has a really good chance of playing every week

Quite a few players being recalled from Championship/League One by Prem teams at the moment so the players can be used on the bench etc. instead of postponements, so I think there could be good options available

We saw with KDH who was 21 when he joined Blackpool how benificial it can be though

But like you say, only as long as it is somewhere where he gets to play regularly

If we have another U23 who's best position is from in front, we could have an Eiffel tower situation, and we win the league again.

It seems like this is the season to actually keep your best youth around. The premier league are going to tighten up... they simply have to. So we need to prepare for that.

Any players that we’d expect to be in the championship should be kept onto imo. Obviously the league 2/ lower league 1 should be allowed to go out
