It's strange that one season he looks clasdy and solid in a back 4 as one of 2 centre halves, is a fans favourite and talk of interest from Liverpool. Suddenly, he's useless and dropped by the fans like a hot potato (or kebab)?

Nothing happens without a reason. Could not being forced by Rodgers, as an essentially right footed player, to continually cover the extreme left of an inept 3 man defence, where he was partnered at times by lesser centre halves and a rookie left back be a reasonable cause for a lack of confidence? He clearly struggled in a left back type position and many centre halves would.

Personally, I think we're being a bit short sighted with him and if he does leave I certainly wish him all the best and think he'll thrive under a decent defensive coach which we certainly haven't got, they're a disgrace. Would you prefer Soyuncu or another Rodgers lump of a signing like Vestergaard?

I think it’s more the fact that he isn’t signing a contract (there hasn’t been any mention at all about even being offered one), he’s probably already got a deal agreed elsewhere

Irrelevant if he won't sign a new contract.

I think he was good when he was unknown. But his game is rather predictable. His rash dive ins, were once catching strikers unaware.  Add this in to the fact he lacks height and he loses his head in big moments.

I think he would suit a different style of team. But for us you need to have defensive reliability as we will never dominate games to the extent that your defenders do more attacking then defending. In fact during his good spell, teams were very weary of us... most set up with a low block and didnt even pressure us... it was only when things started going wrong in that first season that teams realised they didnt need to sit back against us.  He is good at getting the ball back in the oppositions half, i'll give him that.

If he went to chelsea and had silva and another big cb next to him, im sure we would have fans on here crying that we sold him. But not me, because I know he simply isnt a fit.

I'd gladly take another Fofana 🤣. Don't think we'll be spending another 35m on one though. With a badly needed right winger/forward and a replacement for Tielemans on the cards I think Soyuncu would do well with Fofana when Evans is rested. Although Tarkowski is free, can he play a Rodgers high line? There won't be much to spend on a centre half.

A fart would have done better at winning that 50/50 he bottled against Spurs.

He  would have gone flying In months back, makes you wonder if he’s already agreed to sign for someone and didn’t want to risk the move getting injured .

So I presume he wants out?

Good player. Shown he can do it. Has had a rough season. A fair few have to be honest.  You don’t go from being considered by Liverpool and Man City to utter crap. Some people need to get a little perspective.

Real shame tbh. He was excellent for us in his first season but really dipped in form at the end of last season and was bloody awful at the Euro’s.
He’s clearly best when alongside a confident and experienced central defender and I think will be a good signing for a good team.

but we’d be less picky about accepting an offer than we would for maddison, right?

They are. He's been completely dropped now, no appearances in several games and one of our main priorities is a new CB. In light of no European football and can only register 25 players, at least 2 of Vestergaard, Soyuncu and Amartey will be attempted to be moved on.

Not sure why so many have turned on Soyuncu. On balance he’s been great for us.

Soyuncu only 1 year left too.

No chance we let him leave on a free.

Or maybe there's a personal issue going on for him that the club are aware of and with enough defensive cover they have taken him out the firing line for a few games. Just saying....

I'm not saying he won't leave. I'm just saying the club are not desperate to get him out the door like a few others. They would be quite happy for him to sign the offer on the table and keep him.

He may not have had a great season but hes certainly not the only one.

With having to play left side and with a consistently changing back line all season because if illness and injury it's hardly surprising he's struggled sometimes.

Covid had had a massive effect on the club. Some people take months to get over it and a professional sportsman would be no different.

All this has contributed to a very weird season and may be some of the reasons for a drop off in level of performance not just in him but for many others.

I'm a big believer that you don't become a bad player overnight.

Form Is temporary. Good players will always come back and show their quality.

I love Soyuncu, genuinely think he's one of the best modern defenders in the league when he's on form but there's obviously been scant sign of that for the majority of the last season and a half.

The fact he's never been even close to signing a new deal, having joined on quote modest terms for a player of his stature suggests he's wanted to assess him options/move on for quite some time. It's always been an odd one.
