Smalling beat Fofana in the air nearly everytime it went near him. I said it in the match thread last night but its actually clever positioning from Abraham, biggest threat doesn't usually stand on the 6-yard line. The ball in has to be perfect for Abraham and it was.

I think the elephant in the room is Kasper. Club captain, legend, world class shot-stopper and all round good egg - but his unwillingness to command the box, maybe his inability to do so, is at the root of the problem. Our defenders are being asked to defend more crosses than their counterparts in other teams , simply because Kasper always,or nearly always, stays on his line. 
 

But he’s undroppable and as The Florest debacle showed there’s no ready made replacement …despite th plethora of keepers at the club…

Sorry but at this level, I expect & demand that the leading CB & Captain to sort this out, once over the whitewash..

Kasper & Evans more to blame...The two experienced & big bosses of the backline..Kasper shouts at nothing,But Wimpers from  first corners,

through Main Stay-game defensive set ups..

Rodgers has some problems, But these Two were much also to blame for that goal...& over the last few games, for Not Managing from the back, on & off the ball,Plus in the Changing room...!!!

 

Top Managers to decent managers, will tell you...The Bline have to organise themselves, from the 1st Minute once over the whitewash...

 

Whether Rodgers or any other manager, trying to Dump this onto the Bench IMO is well off,

if you rate this squad credentials highly when Standing alone as star Top 5-8 PL Quality players..I

I'm on the verge of changing from Brendan In. He's had all season to remedy this, and should have come up with a solution for our biggest game, even if it meant playing 3 at the back.

Most of us watching on TV had that preview but I thought he looked quite sweet snuggling into Abrahams chest.

we get a free player ref the corner taker 

 

we usually have one taking the front of the six yard box and now another taking the back post.  So we are now one man down.  If we leave one up then they usually keep two back. Hence that takes care of the man down. The attacking side will usually also have someone just outside the D to pick up any headed clearance. so leaving one up would probably give us one spare man to double up on someone. Apart from that it would be man for man. 
 

the issue yesterday with three up was Roma only kept three back. Hence we had no spare man to double up on anyone in the box. .

I think Ricardo has got to shoulder some of the blame too, he could of made it more difficult for Abraham, it was a pretty pathetic attempt, real lack of aggression from Ricardo.

hes not good on corners, this is his achilles heel which is why it's even more puzzling he got given that job

Especially as they had just got away with wrestling Fofana to the ground from a corner with both the ref and var deeming it OK. That is surely a green light to do it back to their. There's no way var or the weak ref gives a penno for the same exact thing they just ignored.

All well and good saying that City had run out of tall players but there's always the old fashioned remedy of putting one man in front and one behind to try to block Abrahams movement one way or the other. Standard practice on long throws once upon a time. Might not have worked but most likely would have been a better use of one of the three players we left forward. That tactic is a bit like putting the cart before the horse. Can't imagine any elite manager using that as a defensive ploy and neglecting the most immediate danger situation?
