Another CF that could’ve made the difference in Europe? You ain’t gonna get much better back up than Daka and Iheanacho.

Neither Daka or Iheanacho are the type I was refering to. Someone who can lead the line and hold the Ball up and bring others into play.

Daka is more in the Vardy mould but still unproven at this level and when played from the start hasn't really performed. So we'll just to wait and see how much he improves this coming season.

Iheanacho is not really a lone striker either, He plays better when he can move around and choose his own space and runs.

We've needed a Howard or Ulloa type of CF since Ulloa left. They provide a focal point and hold the Ball up allowing others to get into supporting positions.

Someone of that type would have provided the goals and points needed as we missed out on by small margins.

I understand it's not Brendans prefered way of playing, But it's a results business and these type of players can turns defeat into draws or wins even if only used as late Subs.

Think about it, We finished 5th and missed out on champions league by a point. This season Europe by 6 points Brighton results Burnley Palace to name a few.

Maybe he might sign someone or bring Hirst into the squad for this season.

...I believe CDK is intelligent to play this role (Lone Striker) but more in a withdrawn role (false #9)!!!

Hirst is a call I would like to see, as he is pretty much a workhorse who could lead the line. He can run the channels and is very good with the ball at his feet.

Hirst isn’t good enough I’d guess.

He’ll likely be moved on.

Yes, I think that's in Brendan's thinking CDKs versarility to play up top but with the mobilty to move around and create space. We know now Teams are aware of our style with Vardy so denigh us that space in behind. So we either use someone who can win the Ball in the middle of a tight defense or we play in front of them.

Again we could use a big lad to occupy them up top while Maddison and the likes of Eriksen done the damage from edge of the box.

I guess you could be right,  However we went to some lengths to get him. He's here now after a good season on Loan why not give him a try out in a few of the Friendlies.

Or a few practice games in Seagrave to see is he ready yet. Everyone who makes it has a breakout season, This could be his and we can find out without it costing us anything.

I think Hirst and Wright are looking at KDH for inspiration... He came into preseason last year on a mission to prove himself, and did.

This year will be interesting for fringe players (if they make the squad) and youngsters no on loan. Although I expect players to get a week or two vacation at the World Cup, there are going to be a lot of behind closed doors games going on to keep players fresh ahead of the restart (if we are still in the League Cup, the R16 is just days after the WC final). It will also be a good opportunity for fringe/youth to prove themselves, especially if there are extra games scheduled to let everyone be evaluated.

As an aside, I have little interest in international football. I would love for these inevitable behind-closed-doors games to be shown on the website or even played in front of crowds.

I agree about the academy players who are given a shot in first team pre season. Although I rate Hirst, I don't rate him highly enough for us.

KDH always had that air of confidence and didn't let negativity creep into his game whilst going from academy yo loan to first team.

Totally agree.  I've seen Hirst in a few games now and I was pleasantly surprised with his ball carrying ability and overall workrate.  He may never be good enough for the PL but surely worth having a look at him properly as you say.

There you are then. I must confess I haven't seen him play just going on instinct. But at 6ft 4 inches he is going to win a lot of Balls in the box a bit like Carroll.

He he can also play football I'd say he's made for us as thats Brendans prefered way to play. plus he can be used as a target man.

I hope he gets a run out in the friendlies so as we can all see how he's progressed.

I believe he will as well. He didn't have a bad first season.

He actually had a very good first season. He’s still managed to score goals despite having limited game time. Few tweaks to his game and a bit more experience and he will be a monster.

...if we look to play him as a 5' 8" player we would be then looking to play to his strengths!!!

His size naturally conjures up target man or balls being played into the box for him to get his head on. He is so much more better with the ball on the ground and his attitude is first class, he does not give up on anything.

The more I hear from those of you who know him better the more I like him. He seems to fill a lot of requirements and give us alternatives up front.

It would be great if we got him in the squad and working with Vardy, He could learn so much more.

The fact that he's already our player , and English is another bonus, Plus he could save us 30 million if funds are as tight as some seem to think.

Any news on Eriksen?

Landing De Jong could also help United in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen. The Dane, who is out of contract, is mulling over an array of offers including from Everton, Newcastle United, Leicester City and one to stay at Brentford, where he enjoyed a successful reintroduction to competitive football in the second half of last season after coming back from a cardiac arrest during last summer’s European Championship.

United are his most high-profile suitor but Eriksen is in no rush to make a decision on his future and keen to gauge the levels of ambition and types of squads behind assembled by the clubs who want him. Playing with De Jong, who was also developed in the Ajax system, would represent an attraction.

I doubt his wife will let him go to Utd. More likely he'll stay in London most likely Spuds if Conte wants him.

Apparently Spurs won't go for him and it is therefore between Brentford and Man U. With Man U now confident he will go to them.  Just read that on F365 and could be bollox but there you are.

The only way he comes here is if we offer him a much better deal, I’m not convinced we can do that so I can’t see it happening.

I keep reading he's turned down man u and Tottenham no longer interested.

According to a Newcastle page that leaves them, Everton, Brentford and us.

You'd have to back us in that but Newcastle project is exciting.

It is, but realistically they are a few years away yet. It’s not always plain sailing to build a new team.

You’d hope the connections he has here would help massively.

Is it feasible that his family could stay based in London, whilst he played for us? (I know they are apparently very settled in London)

Kasper commutes from the north West Doesn't he?

Isn't there players accommodation at the new training ground?

About an hour on the train, don’t see it being a huge issue.

I guess it depends doesn't it. As someone who literally nearly died he might be more inclined to be home from training and with his family in 15/20 mins rather than a couple of hours/overnight trips
