Blanchflower78 Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 De Jong going United may have swayed his thinking this way. Be a sensible signing if he agrees 👍
UniFox21 Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 Interesting that we've suddenly reappeared into this. I wonder if the de Jong signing along with all the other 10's Man United have, has swayed him. What it does prove however is Romano has very little idea 1
foxile5 Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 Given this would be a 'free' signing - obviously I'm aware of associated costs - it's about as risk free as it comes from a playing perspective. He's a well known quantity with quality and would add something to the squad.

SkyBet are acutely aware of how little is known on this forum and so when a thread goes hot they immediately assume the opposite will happen. 2
Ric Flair Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 He would be very good here, but it would see Maddison playing that RW/ACM role more often than not.

FoxyJim1987 Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 Sell Tielemans for 30m and sign this baller on a free, great business. 2

The only chance we have is we are probably willing to pay twice what Brentford are, and he will be up against several other players better than him in the end at Utd.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 If Brentford was his desired choice you'd think he'd have signed for them by now. He still might but he's clearly open to better offers. 3

What also goes for us is we've tried to sign him several times before so there'll be a mutual respect there that we really do value him and he's obviously good pals with Kasper and Vestergaard. It would be a massive coup. I think he'd be the difference between top 7 or not, he'll give us such experience and class alongside the other creators and attackers. 6

That could be Brendans plan Ric.. CDK/Maddison rotating for the RW/ACM role whilst Eriksen slots in elsewhere, probably benching one of our starters in midfield (Tielemans, KDH or Barnes).

Or perhaps we can just go back to playing two 8's, like we did when we played our best football under Rodgers. 6
Glorious Leicester Fan Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 I don’t think it will happen (most probably feels a loyalty to Brentford), but I can see City being an attractive ‘middle’ option. I cannot see him getting his desired game time at Man United. He will obviously be a guaranteed starter at Brentford, but does he want to be involved in simply keeping a team in the premiership? At City, he’ll play alot. He also may have a shot of winning a cup and a top 6-8 finish.

That would be the ideal scenario for me. Play 433 with two #8's and a CDM. Youri signs a new contract and we sign this fella leaving KDH,Maddison, Youri and Eriksen as the eights. Sign Sangare to compete with Wilf at CDM and sign a RW (Madueke), Lookman and a CB (Colwill). Sell Nacho as he doesn't fit that system, Praet, Hamza, Mendy, Bertrand, one of Vesty or Amartey and Soumare out on loan. Leaving us looking like... GK, Kasper/Ward LB, Thomas/JJ RB, Castagne/Ricky CB, Fofana/Evans/Colwill/Amartey CDM, Sangare/Wilf CM, Youri/Maddison/Eriksen/KDH LW, Barnes/Lookman RW, Madueke/Albrighton ST, Vardy/Daka I know it won't happen and isn't financially likely but that would be the (semi realistic) dream. 6 1
MadsEmil Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 I like him, I just don't see where he fits though. If we continue playing our 433 and get a RW, then Madders and Ndidi automatically take up two of the 3 midfield spots. So it'd be between KDH and Eriksen and I dont know what we'd gain from that. 1

coolhandfox Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 Wouldn't mind a diamond of: Ndidi KDH Eriksen Maddison
MadsEmil Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 1 minute ago, coolhandfox said: Wouldn't mind a diamond of: Ndidi KDH Eriksen Maddison Looks nice in theory and CDK would slot in nicely at the top alongside Vardy but it would mean dropping Barnes and also sacrificing way too much width. Brendo talked about it at some point last season where he's debated the diamond with his coaching staff but you'd just surrender areas out wide by doing that.

RowlattsFox Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 Can't wait to see Eriksen and Maddison fighting to take a free kick on the edge of the box at least we'd have someone who can take a corner though..

Looks beautiful However, in the 4-3-3 above two of Brendan’s key players would be sitting on the bench (any of the four CM’s) and I can’t see that happening. I think it’s much more likely he will play all of them with Maddison at RW/ACM, similar to the diamond formation @coolhandfoxsuggested. 6 minutes ago, coolhandfox said: Wouldn't mind a diamond of: Ndidi KDH Eriksen Maddison Tbf it could be quite a dangerous set up if Eriksen clicks with our other midfielders. CDK also fits into this formation. I do prefer your squad / 4-3-3 though, but like I said I just can’t see Brendan benching any of those 4 CM’s. 4
