In the ground now, ultras have kicked off, thousands in the crowd are shouting "NOT OUR CHAMPIONS" Italian police have got the riot team in, could get nasty!

I heard there was a prolonged period of intense tinsel throwing between the sections of fans

Amazing performance from Sam Ryder tonight.  For the first time in years felt like we sent a proper song.  One that would actually do well in our own charts.

But elated for Ukraine.  Perfect result for me :appl:

FWIW the UK will be hosting next year barring a miracle anyway - providing the ruling is that the second-placed nation hosts if the winner is unable to do so.

It isn't.

Aha, thank you.

To answer my own question, it would appear that the winners have the option of choosing whichever European nation they like and cohosting with them, based on precedent.

I guess it comes down to what the Ukrainians want, then - I do think with the best will in the world and despite what they say they won't be in a position to host it themselves next year, though.

Do grown up people still watch this? I’d forgotten it was still a thing. Caught our entry flicking through the channels. Looked like a tree surgeon? Doing that weird voice thing that all singers do now?

I’m amazed by the length of this thread 😂

I remember a few years ago my Spanish lodger asking if there were any Eurovision party’s going on in Coalville where she could watch it at 😂😂 Apparently it’s a big thing in Spain

Last night was probably the first time I've watched in all the way through for at least 20 years but it was due to a bit of a perfect storm. It was straight after the FA Cup final on BBC1 and was hanging from the night before so not doing owt else that required any focus or attention.

This thread was comedy gold, most of us taking the piss really.

You are right about it being a massive thing on the continent though. About 15 years ago in Ireland my mate was dating a Swedish lass who flew home specifically to watch the Sweden in the semi final on Swedish tv. We couldn't comprehend it at the time.

I figured it might be Poland - they and Ukraine have been close in recent times and a lot of refugees headed there. But the UK would host if needed.

I don't understand, I was led to believe no-one in Europe likes us.

It’s amazing what happens when you send a song which would actually chart and get radio play here by a genuinely talented singer, rather than sending a 3rd rate Sam Smith with a completely forgettable song or a 70-year old crooner whose voice had gone for once.

Same thing happened with France last year. They’re usually at the bottom too because they usually send nothing songs, but actually did really well when they sent a memorable song with a talented singer.

I have no recollection whatsoever of that 2010 UK entry.

I think I vaguely remember it. Trouble is, Wogan and Norton wear such tinted specs that they make out all of our songs are good, so you don't to get to remember the true atrocities that deserve pelters. It's always the usual:

"they're such a nice person and they deserve to well"

I think that 2010 performance shows it not just for political reasons how we've not done well in the past!

The 2004 song in that montage is like something you'd expect from a children's TV show in the 90s!
